THE CLASS OF 49 PRESENTS THE HISTORY OF THE FORTY-NINERS ln September of 1946 a group of 24 prospectors began their long four year search in quest of the great fortune-education. The party of determined prospectors was made up of the following: Paul Agne, Tom Bel- lar, Joyce Bradow, Phyllis Busch, Kathryn Crauder, Marilyn Fahrenholz, Alma Fugate, Kathryn Hagler, Alta Hendrickson, Charles Keiser, Dale Looker, Clem Milstead, Jerry Minnich, Sam Morthland, Norman Powell, Bill Roach, Paul Sauer, Eunice Smith, Lee Suman, Barbara Weth- ington, and George Winkelman. Two other prospectors joined our party in the middle of our first year, they were Ruth Kuhbander and Marvin Valentine. Our foremen for the year were Mr. Derby, Superintendent and Mr. Diehl, Principal. The assistants were Miss Lena Scott and Mr. James Reynolds. The head prospectors for the year were as follows: Paul Sauer, President, Ruth Kuhbander, Vice President, Barbara Wethington, Secretary, Marilyn Fahrenholz, Treasurer When we got to Kansas we stopped along the trail for a weiner roast with our superiors- the Juniors. We lost one prospectorithis year, Kathryn Crauder. Upon beginning our Sophomore year we immediately enlarged all of our pockets to be pre- pared for the gold we soon would be carrying. Our head prospectors for this year were as follows: Marilyn Fahrenholz, President, Lee Su- man, Vice President, Barbara Wethington, Secretary, Paul Sauer, Treasurer. During this year we lost one of our foremen, Mr. Derby and gained Mr. Sprinkle. Mr. Diehl remained with us. The assistants were Miss Mertz and Mr. Reynolds who led us along the trail towards suc- cess. We left three of our diligent prospectors in a small settlement somewhere in the middle of Colorado, they were: Phyllis Busch, Joyce Bradow, and Norman Powell. Now we were rapidly coming to the state Border of California but were beginning to slow down from the long time traveling. This year one of our foremen, Mr. Sprinkle, remained with us, but we lost Mr. Diehl and gained Mr. Conarroe. The head prospectors were Marilyn Fahrenholz, President, Paul Sauer, Vice President, Ruth Kuhbander, Secretary, Lee Suman, Treasurer. This year one of the prospectors who left us came back with us, Phyllis Busch, and we also gained Roy Isaacs who was soon known as a great prospector. Rose Ann Buschur joined us also. We didn't cover much territory this year since we had a short order joint in Death Valley as a means of collecting funds to feed our most humble Seniors before they sailed into the heavens as sparkling stars. Our company gave a dramatic production as another means of supplementing our treasury. This production was called Where's Grandma? The cast consists of Clem Milstead, Barbara Wethington, Roy lsaacs, Eunice Smith, Ruth Kuhbander, Marilyn Fahrenholz, Paul Sauer, Phyllis Busch, Alma Fugate, and Dale Looker. Now as our journey was coming to an end we entered our Senior year. Our foremen for this year were Mr. Sprinkle and Mr. Conarroe. The sponsors were Mr. Sprinkle and Mr. Parker. Our head prospectors for the year were Lee Suman, President, Paul Sauer, Vice President, Alma Fugate, Secretary, Rose Ann Buschur, Treasurer. This year we were fortunate enough not to lose any prospectors along the way. ln fact we gained one, Betty Jo Dotson from Parker Co-op, Dayton. The prospectors this year were very busy working on the i949 Annual. The annual staff were Barbara Wethington, Editor, Rose Buschur, Dale Looker, George Winkelman, Assistant Editors. On our final trip we stopped off at the Eaton Country Club where the Juniors gave us 0 very fine reception, which we all enjoyed. Now as we were near to the end of our journey we attended the Baccalaureate service which was given by the Reverend E. A. Caldwell on May 22, I949. The end of our journey came on May 26 at our Commencement service. Now that we have reached our goal, we will all go our own way and work to reach a higher goal. Dr. McNiff delivered a fine talk which was enjoyed very much. The climax of the evening was the receiving of our great fortune for which we had been striving-our diplomas. A FORTY-NINER Nine
