In sharp contrast, the question To The SENIQRS Congratulations upon your graduation! I believe the following thoughts may help you gain happiness, and help to make this a better world. For centuries, individuals have asked, What shall I do to inherit eternal life ? A young man once asked this self-centered question of Christ, and when he was told to get rid of the trappings of power and privilege that separated him from humanity, and cast his lot with those who dared to affirm love and brotherhood as the central realities of life, the young man left sorrowfully because he couldn't understand. we should ask is How can we en- courage love and diminish hate? Here the interest moves from one's self to one's fellowman, as it did in Christ's answer. When we learn to ask this question we will look for ways to re- move the artificial barriers between man and man, ways in which hate, breeding misunderstandings, can be clared up, ways in which man may live peacefully and happily. How can we encourage love? Once it is asked, our energies move outward, and we think about saving others and in the process we save ourse ves. The grand enterprise of life then, should be to create life that is friendly to fellow life. This vision cannot be fulfilled unless we remove the conditions that make for distrust, fear, and antagonism among men. Chief among these are the racial discriminations, class discriminations, political power seekings, idealogical fanaticisms and economic exploitations. This is the test we can put to every community 5 to every institution and groupg to every business, labor union, and management 3 to every political partyg to every school and college, to every homeg to every nation. It is a test which can confidently challenge all secular institutions and activities: Does this promote love and diminish hate? W. B. McKEE, Principal MRS. LOIS MacDONALD Ah! were I sever'd from thy side, Where were thy friend and who my guide? Years have not seen, time shall not see The hour that tears my soul from thee. -Byron 4
