In Little Three competition the Cardinal nine was able to cop only one contest out of four against their northern neighbors. On May 29 at Williamstown. Co'captain Norm Wissing blanked Coast Guard 2-0 on May lst in front of a sun-drenched Denison crowd. A week later Wesleyan trounced MIT 16-0. Dave 82 Darling led the attack with a homer and two singles. The most disheartening loss of the sea- son occurred in New Haven when Coach Daniels, squad lost to a strong Yale aggregation, 2-1. Wissing and Hordlow combined their pitching talents to hold the Bulldogs scoreless through the eighth inning. Wissing was especially strong. allowing only three hits and a walk while fanning eight. In the eighth frame two walks and two singles off Hordlow gave the home team two runs which proved to be enough to carry the day. Highly regarded by colleagues and students alike for his teaching ability, he gave unstintingly of his time to all who came to him for aid and advice. Despite a full schedule, Mr. Arnold found time to serve Wesleyan as secretary of its Phi Beta Kappa chapter and to advise and counsel his fraternity. The memory of Herbert Eli Arnold will remain that of a teacher, counsellor, friend, and loyal son of Wesleyan. 152 Faculty . mw Left to right. first row: C. Slearns. J. Rosenfeld. E. Schatlschneider.
