STERLING A. CALLISEN Dezm L'allisen is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard Universities and came to 1Vesleyan in 1945 after service with 0-2 nf the 0.8.5. during the war. This year he served as chair- man of the Art Department and offered a course in Italian Renaissance Painting. De- spite the fact that part of his juh entails met- ing out disciplinary action where it is needed which is not the best way to win friends and inHuence penple. Dean Callisen is extremely popular among the umlergrzuluates, and para- doxically. particularly among those students who have been 'ealled 011 the mat. His keen sense of fair play and justice are responsible for this. 1 JOHN W. SPAETH Professor Spaeth graduated frnm Haver- fm-d College in 1917 and did graduate work at Harvard and Princeton. He came to 1Yesleyan in 1930 from Brown University. In addition to his position as Secretary of the Faculty. Mr. Spaeth serves as Chairman of the Classics De- partment and has recently heen elected Chair- man of the Classical Association of New Eng- land. Deep thinking and reHective. he exe presses a keen interest in undergraduate affairs. WILLARD M. WALLACE Mr. 1Yallace is a member of the 1Yesleyan graduating class mi 1934. 1Vhi1e here as an undergraduate he was an 01in Scholar and a standout as a guard im the football team. He did his graduate work at the University Of Pennsylvania and is now Dean of Freshmen. In addition to this responsibility, Mr. 1Yallace teaches in the History department. During the past two years he has maehed JV football. His gontl nature and amiable dispusitiun make him .itins among undergrads. DONALD A. ELDRIDGE Mr. Eldridge is also a 1V0s1eyan graduate. Class of .31. He joined the college in 19-15 succeeding Mr. Bischoff as Directur of Admis- sions. The impurtzmce of his joh cannot be 0x'er-emplmsizetl. It is Don's responsihility to determine whether a prospect fits into the 1Vesleyau picture 01' not. Often this is tick- 1ish business at best. But that he, in conjunc- tion with the operations of the Manpower Commissiim. has done a splendid job. can he attested to by the hue showing of the 1Vesley2m Freshmen classes during the past three years. 19 Dean Sterling A. Callisen Director of Admissions Donald A. Eldridge Secretary of the Faculty John Spaeth
