To you men of the present graduating class must deservedly go much of the eretlit for having made what many eynics regard as a pipe dream actually work here at XVesle-van. This past year in particular was a trying une as it marked the first time in the annals Hf the college that there existed such a discrepancy in the ages of the students. The overwhelming inajm'ity of this years freshmen class is com- posed nf ynungsters of the same age as thnse enteringr frush hefnre the war. The possibility was acute that they would he snnhhetl. made to feel ill at ease. tYell. they not only did not feel any of these things. lmt ttmk a more active part in extra-eurrienlar activities antl Cullege life in general than any freshmen class in the history of the college. It was quite natural, too that these men would lOUlC particularly to men 0f the senior class for help and guidance on any problems that might arise. That the cool'tieration and advice they received was of a sound variety is reflected in the scholastic and athletic acumen displayed by the new nien. their nncnniniunly good social graces, and their high level of moral attainment. lYesleyan does not say goodbye to its senior class. because she believes there will always be a cnrner in the heart of each graduate for her. and most certainly XVcsleyan will always take the deepest pride in the tleetls and accomplish- ments of her sonsethe unes x11? helped along:r the way. lVesleyan is detinitely hack on her feet Not absolutely true. this. again? How can one assert lVesleyan is a community of 0m in spirit and the Immy in number. when the fraternity system. breeding the venom of segregation. is such a vital part of the community life?y l And when we say fraternity. we include the john XYesley Clnh because it. Inn. is something structurally apart from anything elsefl Two answers can be given to this, the second emanating from the first. If every member nf fraternity A will. upon readingT this. set aside his hook for a moment and reflect on how many elnse friends he has, and values. who live dmx'n the street in fraternity H . the contention that the fraternity Hf eluh .xystem th Xl'esleyan is u nefarious one will be at least partially over- come. It goes without saying that john lYesley Cluh members have long nurtured cluse friend- ships. friendships that will survive the test of time. with students who are memhers 0f frat- ernities. Obviously the reverse nhtains here also. Now. reasun why this is 50. It is so he. cause it spells H'mlvyuu in capital letters.
