Manager History URING those rainy days in the fall of 1933 most of the members of the Class of 1037 met for the First time. Perhaps such weather was ominous for our class; but who could tell? Our class has witnessed perhaps more than its share of such usual incidents as a successful Hagescrap tthe last real onel. changes in the chapel system, a football championship, and a glee club championship, but we have also experienced more important events which have affected the outer world as well. We entered college when the depression had fully reached college students. Of all college classes. per- haps '37 throughout the country has been hardest hit, so that we may not have had the potential of other classes. Nevertheless we have a right to be satisfied, and even proud, when we look at our list of lettermen. our tifteen Phi Bete's elected despite increased scholastic requirements, and the size of our phantom list as compared with that of some of our predecessors. It was not enough that we faced bad times when we were freshmen, but we were also beset by a hlizzartl which tied New England in a knot for days. but which we survived with some joy at omitted classes and general use of heat tunnels. As spring approached and conditions improved, work on the new gym and squash court build- infDy was undertaken. Our sophomore year was quite pleasant. In the fall we eagerly attended the parley on political philosophies featuring Norman Thomas and Scott Nearing. and who can forget the delightful production of The Pirates of Penzance in the spring hy the combined Mt. Holyoke and Wesleyan glee clubs? Why the Sigma Nuis even got a new house that year to replace their previously burned mansion. Our junior year had its ups and downs. for although we joyfully welcomed the opening of the Downey and Davison Houses, and the depression was nearly for- gotten. we experienced indirectly the worst disaster in New England namely the Hood. the excitement of which was accentuated on campus by the infamous siege of dirty politics and the resulting tlescents of llThe Hermes. Last fall we returned with embryonic senior cynicism to find sidewalks-yes. side- walks! and nothing for the Argus to stew over except compulsory chapel and the A.S.U.l We enjoyed and profited by the marriage parley too, especially Mrs. Hepburn, and we were glad to see Wesleyan athletics on the upgrade with a good basketball team. After this review of the high-lights of the past four years, who would not say that the experience here has been both proEtable and pleasant. and who would not admit that ,37 has done well to surmount its difheulties with the present success? Well, well see you at the fifth reunion. and long before that we hope! Page Fifleen
