28 OLLA P-ODRIDA ,Svrninr Lqintnrg To write a really accurate account of the class of i907 would require the genius of a second Florentine, for in truth many of our most carefully planned activities have been con- strued as fit occupations for the inhabitants of the Inferno. But we have had our celestial moments also-for instance, could anything less than a Heaven-inspired intellect ever have con- ceived those little pastoral dramas enacted in Middle I-laddam and in Doc's barn? Such recollections only recall the martyr-like sacrifices we made to furnish our rural friends with hand-embroidered isleeping apparel and I .. garden implements inlaid with pearl,-so perish the thought. But what of our prowess in the domain of athletics and scholarship? We I-Iilie have always been conservative along these lines, and our policy has resulted in a succession of victories, few but well chosen. As for prizes, et cetera, credited to us, it would take a more brilliant imagination than mine even to attempt a record of them, and besides the editor has urged us to be brief. Suffice it to say that in every contest of brain, we have worsted our adversaries, and We have snatched our share of victories from the gridiron and track. We are a very cosmopolitan organization. It seems as if some super- natural divinity had shaped our politic ends, for we have all the various sorts and conditions of men from bandy'legged, sallow complexioned, grim-visaged, pulpit ornaments to merry minstrelizing bacchanaliansg saints and sinners, grinds and loafers, book-worms and worms not found in books, and best of all, god-like Apollos in form and figure, champions of class and college, and the idols of lVliddletown,s fair fin the sense of mediocrej daughters. Yes, we have had a good time and we have paid for it. We regret nothing except that our time is so nearly up. We rest with that self-satisfaction that comes from a ready response to the call of Duty. We are standing on the brink looking out into that awful unknown before which many weaker spirits have faltered, with that same self-assurance and command that characterized our undergraduate days. Soon will come that sharp command, To the frontf' and we'll forward every man for Wesleyan.
