' 9' V1 N ' N ji L 'r f f e Psalms 119: 105 Through every phase of our lives, at work, at play - yes, during every moment of our day, Light from God's Word has guided us. When the present becomes the past, the grnemories of the part He has played in the day by day ac- tivities of the Academy will become more apparent and more real. In this the first issue of El Bambi we have tried to present to you a record of those events, the memory of which will become more and more precious as time goes by. Dedimfion The staff of El Bambu is proud to dedicate the first edition to our principal, Reverend Ronald Heavilin, in appreciation of his unceas- ing efforts in behalf of Wesleyan Academy and its students. On this occasion of the publication of our first yearbook, we also want to express our gratitude to the many people, both here in Puerto Rico and in the continental United States, who have contributed so much to our school. In the years since 1955 when Wesleyan Academy began as two grades in the basement of the Caparra Wesleyan Church, many Christiansinevery walk of life, including ministers, missionaries, build- ers, as well as teachers, have helped us both materially and spiritually to become the school we are today fully accredited with a graduating senior class. However, whatever we may say here, we must remember that by our leading lives dedicated to doing the will of God and by helping others as we have been helped, we can best express the appreciation these workers so richly deserve. ' . .. - fa 2. f s+, Dear Students: This yearbook has been compiled to chronicle many events and experiences of the past school year. There are always many happy memories and many wholesome pleasures combined with diligent study and responsible activities in a school such as Wesleyan Academy. Memories of such- activities and experiences here will be revived in the tomorrows by the perusal of the pages. It is hoped that the recalling of these times will brighten many future days that will be heavy with re- 'mum sponsibility whether you be active in the secular world or in Christian service. It is my hope and prayer that each student may exemplify loyalty to your Alma Mater as it continues to follow the purpose for which God brought it into being. Sincerely, Ronald Heavilin MR. HILDA IRAIDA SANTIAGO if ir 611155 Praphccy We start out at Kennedy International Airport, where IVETTE ARCHILLA, Stewardess of Eastern Air Lines, and MYRNA JANSSEN, Stewardess of K.L.M. fRoyal Dutch Airlinej meet after not having seen each other for years. IVETTEg MYRNA JANSSEN, why, I haven't seen you in years. What have you been doing lately? MYRNAg Well, as you can see, I'm a stewardess for K.L.M. Have you seen any of the kids we graduated with? IVETTE: Yes, Ihave, since my flights are on the main line to Puerto Rico. I saw LILLIAN here at the airport a couple of weeks ago and found out that she is Mayor Wagner's pri- vate secretary. She said that she and PEGGY were sharing an apartment and that PEGGY was doing social work in the Village. MYRNA: As for myself - when I was flying to Paris, I saw SARAH and she is designing dress- es for Dior. I also saw JEANIE there. She was heading back to the States after her first term as a missionary nurse in Spain. Did you know that? IVETTE: No, I didn't. That 's interesting to hear. Say, remember the two boys in our class? MYRNA: Of course I do! IVETTE: I saw both of them. EUGENE LEE is in North Carolina, and he became a preacher. Remember Pat, the girl he used to date? MYRNA: Yes, I remember. The blonde girl from North Carolina. IVETTE: Yes, she's the one. Well, she and GENE finally got married and have two lovable kids. MYRNA: What about ANGEL? IVETTE: Well, I saw him. He's still in Puerto Rico and married to Wendy. He is Captain of the Police Force. fVerdad, Angel?J He told me he saw MILDRED and she never did marry Alex, but he owns a drug store in Santurce. MYRNA: Well, Ivette, it was nice talking to you, but they just gave my plane call. Sure hope we meet again. Take care of yourself. IVETTE: I will, Myrna. Hasta la vista. SENIOR CLASS of 1966 bg? The Sophomores had quite a time deciding just how mean they could be. Just a sample of what the ninth graders endured--Each time they met a tenth grader they had to repeat: A I'm just a lowly Freshman. I'm lower than the ground. I'm even so microscopic That I cannot be found. After a day of skirts five inches below the knee, hair in four pigtails, nylon stockings for the boys, strings of lollipops around the neck, carrying books and polishing shoes for Sophomores, the ninth graders were finally accepted as Freshmen at Wesleyan Academy.
