The aim of these councils is to enable the ideas and opinions of the students to be voiced through their chosen representatives. The functions include matters of scholastic achievement, social activities and disciplinary measures. The squad, though inexperienced, played aggressive ball throughout, and gained experience which will prove valuable in the coming campaigns. Although the team did not score any triumphs over the much more formidable opponents, they are looking forward to a successful season next year. v : . 1:1 ,. . , . .HOCKEY 1f1'l-'.:'l5?iEEQi:1.:M-y - , , . - -s The Girls' 'Varsity Hockey Team completed a successful season. They won 2, tied 2, and lost 4. As proof of close, well-played games, Mfesley offers 13 points scored while her opponents made ll. The coach, Miss Louise Frantz, claimed that the team had trouble in the first half and by the time they did get going it was often too late. The team was composed of eight sophomores and 6 freshmen. Hughes, Dickman, Jester, Smith, and Kelly opened the opponents wall, while Nabb, Semos, Benevides, Woodall, DiGenova, and Donnigan served as YVesley's spirited defense. As a member of the newly organized Delaware Field Hockey Association, the Wesley team found all its field opponents well-skilled and ideal sportswomen. 'Even with this statement we are proud, because we know we did our best. By the end ol the season, the teamwork necessary for any ath- letic event was not lacking. The faithful attendance at practices by the coach, the First string, and the substitutes added to the spirit, fun, and strength of our Varsity Season. With Hve members from the freshman class on the team, next year should prove quite victorious for our girls. So bring on '49 with a victorious season, but bring on '49 with the Spirit of '48! VARSITY W To promote high standards of conduct on the part of the members of the athletic teams and to maintain pleasant athletic relationships with other educational institutions. This quotation states quite clearly the purpose of the newly formed organization of VVes1ey Letter Winners. All the members are striving to build this organization into an active part of Wesley College activity. It is the plan of the club to sponsor field days, plays, talks, and other activitiesg to further better and more school spirit. We hope we have made these remembrances a lasting impression in the minds and hearts of those who graduate this May, 1948. l if l WESLEY ECHOES This year there came to Xvesley something that we hope will become an institution. It was the VVESLEY ECI-IOES. The first major change in the paper was the change in appearance, a permanent masthead. The stall of the paper set forth a series of schedules that they hoped to meet. Much to the surprise of the complete student body, the ECHOES met these schedules, and each issue improved with experience. A write-up of this YCZIIJS ECHOES would not be complete without a generous round of applause to Miss Catherine P. Shaffer, our faculty adviser. It was through her that the staff learned much about college journalism. She was at all times an untiring worker and a pillar of strength throughout the year. R, Kilby. The Club is affiliated with the Carnegie Endowment for Inter- national Peace. Speakers and Discussion Leaders for the bi-monthly meetings are college students and civic leaders of Delaware. The Carnegie Enclownient presents to each club, twice a year, recent books on current affairs to be placed in the college Library. The officers are: President-Robert G. Its specific purpose is to promote closer fellowship with God, spirit of brotherhood among students, and spiritual aid and guidance. This organization is responsible for various services and contributions. During the year the W.S.C.A. has held regular worship and discussion meetings. Vesper services were held each Wednesday night. The Com- munion service for the graduates held the last Sunday of the school year is under its direction. THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE The Social Committee for the 1947-48 year has provided for the student body a new and better organization for the planning and presentation of school dances. A very successful Halloween Dance at the McKay Farm in Smyrna began the Hrst of a series of dances held at the college. This was followed by the Thanksgiving Dance, the Snowball Festival, St. Valentine's, St. Patrick's, and closed the year with a very successful Commencement Dance. DRAMATICS The presentation of Corridors of the Soul and Will O' the VVisp by the dramatic class re- vealed the Hne talents of the Xflfesley student. The scenery played an important part in making the productions a success as well as the cooperation and able direction.
