Large English Dept. Revamps All Courses The English department, largest department on the campus of Weslaco High School, occupies the complete Annex building except two rooms for art classes. The department had established a new English library consisting solely ot' paperback books. Aside from studying grammar and learning, the fundementals of writing compositions and research papers, english students study plays, often acting them out. Teachers in the department have been working this year on re-structuring and re-vamping the entire high school English curriculum. Many ol' the materials will be in use next year. Besides having detailed discussions concerning the read- ing selections, the students discuss controversial topics that concern many people today. The head of the English de- partment is Mrs. ,loyce McWhorter. Mrs. McWhorter who teaches English lV, has taken students to participate in Ull. competition in ready writing and speed reading. On Weslaeo's campus this year are student teachers in English classes. The student teachers sat in the same class for a period of days to observe the students and the teach- ercs methods before taking over periodically on their own. Academicsf19
