Typing and Bookkeeping Skills of Seventies ln this age ol' ubiquitous computers, someone still has to man the old typewriter, take dictation and keep business books organized, so WHS offers typing, shorthand, book- keeping and related bookkeeping to help students make it in the business World. Typing l is learning l.lH1ll21IIlliIll2llS of using typewriters and basic business forms. Typing ll is a combination of letters, manuscripts, business forms and other types of typing. Students also switch from manual to electric type- writers at this point. Shorthand is a skill that will come in handy for taking notes in college, or for taking dictation in an olliee. The first semester is spent learning how to take dictation and mastering the forms. In general, mostly girls take short- hand, but more and more, boys are entering the class also. Bookkeeping and related bookkeeping are similar but the regular bookkeeping course is more business oriented and complicated than the related course, which stresses skills needed by the ordinary citizen in home and simple business records. ln addition to classroom activity, business students also particpate in Halloween carnival activities, UIL competi- tion, and a Valentine typing contest. Working busily in their bookkeeping workbooks are Susan James, Sylvia Salas, Vicki Bell, Blanca Chavez, Alicia Marin and Selina Gonzales. School takes independent study, this girl finds.
