Bwcfmeacf Work for the WHS office staff begins well before the school year and terminates late in the summer, just in time to start again. The staff plans curriculum for the student body, keeps each student's school history, attends to problems, records absentees, and handles other miscellaneous business. This staff has proven itself invaluable to the faculty, student body, and administration. Many changes came to Weslaco High School this year. Besides a new principal there is anew counselor, a new assistant principal, an additional assistant principal, and a new secretary. These have blended well with the old staff into the WHS daily routine, This year's entire office staff strives to keep up with the increasing enrollment and curriculum of Weslaco High School. Answering the continuously ringing telephone is only one of the many duties of Mrs, Ellis May, WHS's busy recep- tionist. 103

By writing compositions, a student becomes aware of the opportunities found in self -expression. Under the leadership of instructors, Weslaco stu- dents demonstrate their achievements in English at UIL districtcompetition, winning honors in such areas as ready writing, poetry interpretation, and prose reading.
