ACTIVITIES From 1957-1958 to 1967-1968, the activities of astudent at Wesciin have remained about the same. Besides the addition of the all-school musical, which took the place of all class plays, practically all the activities have remained constant. Also, each class has different activities throughout the years, such as the Senior Class Chicken Supper These activities are carried on in order to raise money for the Junior Prom and the Sen- ior Trip. The activities which have remained constant are as follows: the Junior-Senior Prom, the band and chorus activities, graduation, baccalaureate, the Senior Trip, and the class plays, or today, the all-school musical. Normal Activities Quiet! Sponsor at work! That's hard work! 22 23 Decade MRS, LILLEY MARGARET SCOTT The school year of 1967-68, saw the chorus as a small group, numbering only thirty. Many of Wesclin’s students are very busy with their homework; however, many of them find time to actively participate in organizations. During its first year Wesclin had nine organizations. Today, Wesclin’s organiza- tions have increased to fifteen. Many of Wesclin’s organizations have grown and will continue to grow as the school grows. In the picture above left, the Wig Warn Staff was twenty-four strong. Today, the Wig Warn Staff numbers 54. 43 Wesclin’s 1967-68 newspaper staff, with much strenuous effort and hard work, has produced a fine WIG WAM. The difference in size of the present staff com- pared to Wesclin's first newspaper staff is considerable. The WIG WAM's creators have risen in num- ber from twenty-four members to fifty-four. 44 Organized in I960, the Student Council remains constant in size. It sponsors a student exchange pro- gram among several schools in the surrounding area. They also bright- en the holidays with a Christmas Dance, and it sets the mood through- out school. Being a fairly new organization, the Thespian Club has more than doubled its mem- bership in its three years ofexistence. 45 A long-standing organization, the G.A.A. has sponsored bake-sales and group activities for the majority of Wesclin's young, athletic girls. Since 1958, the Yearbook Staff of Wesclin has consisted of eight members. During the past ten years, the fine staffs of juniors and seniors have shown responsibility in the pro- duct of their work. Each year they strive to equal and improve upon the efforts of the yearbook workers who have served on the Yearbook Staff in the years before them. 46 The Future Farthers of America came into existence after the ad- dition of Wesclin's Agriculture De- partment in 1961. Striving for bet- ter agricultural methods, its mem- bers enter many contests and have been fine representatives of Wesclin. Originating from Wesclin's 1963 Speech Club, the now existing Drama Clubof Wesclin takes active parts in the annual school musical. 47 Since 1958, Wesclin's Future Homemakers of America have decreased in size, but not in ability or power. The present twenty-nine members delight the school occasionally with bakery products to be sold in the cafeteria. The Latin Club originated in 1958 and for the past decade has had an unsteady ex- istence. The Latin Club of 1968 makes monthly calendars and performs plays in strictly Latin style. 48 The Honor Society, since 1966, has grown from fifteen to twenty-two members. On Graduation Day. a gold cord is worn to give recognition to those who have achieved high scholastic standings throughout their high school years. Since 1958, the member- ship of the Future Teachers of America has grown from nine to an impressive twenty-eight. Each year, the Future Teachers of America are represented at a workshop sponsored by vari- ous surrounding schools. Originated in 1962 with twenty-nine members, the Lettermen have promoted good sportsmanship through- out the school for six years. At the present, there are twenty-one members. 49 The French German Club is a new club to Wesclin this year. In past years, Wesclin has had separate clubs for the French and German students; however, this year, due to the fact that the mod- ern language students were so few in number, they combined groups to form the French German Club. The Pep Club has been organized at Wesclin since 1962. The club has kept the same number of mem- bers since its first year. It encourages students to pro- mote school spirit. 50 SPORTS MCM From 1957-1968, Wesclin's sports have increased from three sports to five sports. The 1957-1958 sports included basketball, baseball, and cheerleading. From 1957 to 1968, two additional sports have been added. They are tennis and golf. In the school year 1960-1961, track was added to the list, but unfortunately was dropped in 1964-1965. The Warriors found themselves in three conferences. They are as follows: the Madison, Bond and Clinton; the Madison. Clinton, and Macoupin; and finally the Egyptian-mini. 51 BILL GORDON JAMES WESTPHAL KEN GRAESSER Varsity DEAN BEATTY 53 RODNEY WEBER Varsity VARSITY: (STANDING): Rodney Weber, Dale Beatty.
