Warrior STAFF OF WESCLIN HIGH SCHOOL Trenton, Illinois Mrs. Betty Kauffman, Sec. Dedication Betty’s job is perhaps the most diversified of our school. Besides her regular office duties, Betty always finds time to do special favors for practically everyone in school. She's always ready to lend a helping hand to teachers, students, or just anyone who has a problem. Her many favors and kindnesses will long be remembered by everyone who knows her. Her pleasant per- sonality and friendly smile greet everyone as they step inside the office door. She is a friend to everyone and is a very valuable part of Wesclin. We want Betty to know that her many years of service to our school have not gone unnoticed. To this kind and understanding person, we dedicate the 1960 WARRIOR. 2 Our Faculty Provides ... Since 1934 he has been an executive in the flour milling industry and at present is Vice-President and General Manager of Trenton Milling Company. STANDING: Larry Schuetz, class reporter; Milton Luginbuhl, Lola Swinney, student council. Senior Officers and Sponsors The Class of ’60 has been together only three years instead of the usual four. The reason for this was that in 1957, the Trenton and New Baden High Schools consolidated to establish the Wesclln School District. This has not in any way hampered our enjoyment of high school years. As soph- omores, the year was filled with many new friendships. We were no longer NewBadenites or Trentonians, but Wesclinites working to- gether to achieve our goals. Our Junior year was filled with still more memorable events. We were the first Junior class to try our hand at dramatics; we gave a play. It was entitled Headin' For A Weddin ' and was extremely successful. Also, we spon- sored the Junior-Senior Prom, the theme of which was Indian Summer. As our final year at Wesclin opened, we began to make extensive plans concerning our Senior trip. This year we also gave another play, Finders Creepers. Our trip to Washington, D.C. was a most enjoyable and educational trip for all who went. When we returned, we found the class of '61 feverishly working on this year's prom. The decorations were beautiful, and everyone enjoyed a wonder- ful evening in Blue Hawaii. Shortly after this came the climax of our four most enjoyed years of work—Graduation! We had started the 1957 term with forty on our class roll, and thirty-one stepped forward to receive their much desired diplomas. Let's Get Goin' I'm a Beatnik Washington's Home Department of Commerce Washington Monument Senior Trip On May 2, 1960, the senior class in conjunction with Boersma Tours and the Greyhound Bus Company commenced on one of its ultimate goals, namely, the long awaited trip to our capital, Washington, D.C. Monday was spent traveling enroute to Gettsburg, Pennsylvania, the initial stop of the tour. Tuesday, having arrived at Gettysburg, the seniors toured the famous battlefield seeing the following historic and educational landmarks: Lincoln's Gettsburg Address Memorial, numerous monuments erected by various states in behalf of their soldiers who fought in the sanguine battle, President Eisenhower's farm, along with other noteworthy sites. On Tuesday afternoon the class checked into the Sheraton Park Hotel in Washington and received their first view of the nation's capital. Tuesday evening the seniors enjoyed a dinner and floor show at the Casino Royal and a nocturnal tour of the city, and Wednesday evening a boat cruise integrated with free time at an amusement park climaxed the night-time activities in Washington. The following inspiring, memorable, and educational sites were joyously, and at times humbly viewed in Washington and the surrounding territory on Tuesday and Wednesday: the Senate, House of Represent- atives and other chambers, paintings, et cetera in the Capitol, all five hundred fifty-five feet, five and one-eighth inches of the Washington Monument, the hallowed Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Depart- ment Buildings, the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and part of Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima statue plus many other memorials, Annapolis, the temporary garner of the Navy's future leaders, Fords' Theater and the house where Lincoln died, and other numerous points of interest. The Class of 1960 arrived in Trenton on Friday in jubilance, but also in grateful appreciation to those whose efforts made this privilege a reality. Commencement Commencement Is indeed a solemn affair, a beginning of maturity. It is often thought of by the graduates as the end of things but instead it is a commencing for which high school has only been a preparation. Rev. John Merzdorf gave the Invocation. A solemn moment. Mr. Miller, Supt. of Schools, presents the Class of 1960. Leonard B. Wheat, Assistant to Dean for Graduate Studies, Principal Donald Wehrle presenting special honors. S.I.U., spoke on Reaching for the Moon.” Mrs. Jeanne Storts sang I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked.” The Commencement exercises are over and the graduates crowd at the rear of the auditorium to meet their parents and friends and to receive con- gratulations. Baccalaureate This year the Baccalaureate service was held on the Thursday preceding graduation. Our speaker for the service was Reverend F. W. Schwarzlose, former pastor of the Methodist Church. He spoke to the seniors on the topic Thermometers vs Thermostats. Milton Luginbuhl - Valedictorian Pat Bassler - Salutatorian 56 Parents and friends rise to watch the seniors walk down the aisle as the Baccalaureate service ends. The students who have excelled In special ways during their four years of high school deserve the honors bestowed on them this day.
