The Acedemy was founded by Sieplien G. WentwoHh, scion of e distinguished English family and a prominent Lexingtor banker, in ! 880 at a memoriel to his deceased ion, William Wentworth. Mr. Wentworff :inmediately vested control of fhe institution in the hands of a board of trustees composed oi a duly elected repfmefifative of each of the Evangelica! ctiurches of Lexington, and a president, Colonel Sellers A-a-: called to the new school in its first year and remained as its active heao until 1938.
