The Academy was Tounded by STephen G. WenTworTh, scion oT a disTinguished English Tamily and a prominenT LexingTon banker, in I88O, as a memorial To his deceased son, William WenTworTh. Mr. WenTworTh immediarely vesTed conTrol oT The insTiTuTion in The hands oT a board oT TrusTees composed OT a duly elecTed represenTaTive oT each oT The Evangelical churches oT LexingTon, and a presidenT. Colonel Sellers was called To The new school in iTs TirsT year and remained as iTs acTive head unTil I938.
