C When we first climbed the front steps off Wentworth Institute on Monday, September 9, 1963, itzziwasgnot without some vague apprehension andpundefined dread . . . What terrors lurked behind innocent facade higher learnifig? We soon found out. W and wait was the order ofiitlieliiidayg ibiargafiii day at Fi1ene's basement couldn't hold a candleflto the confusionof that first day of registration week. There was an unlimited supply of, divers forms to be filled out in triplicate, endless standing in line, and a basic familiarization with the premises to conducted. The next day brought us 'together with our 'counselois forianotlier sessionfof form-completion and an it' introduction to the,,myriad do's and don'ts of the Institute. We were also treated to a poke-and-peer session witha battery of physicians in the auditorium, ostensibly to seeiif we could withstandthe rigors of the idemanding schedule of studies. i if lnfiio time at' all we were settled downginto our first vspjeek of classes, and soon' dis- covered that we were expected to work and work hard during our stay. The pattern was set, and we commenced with the work of the first semester, full of splendid aspira- tions land determination. T 'si' ii 5 ' T Remember looking forward to the first Qhristmas vacatipn? oasis of? the holidays beckoned to the weary travelers on the desert of scholastic gachieyement, and it was with heartfelt thanks that we ascertained that it was not a mirage on the chronological horizon. Refreshed by our short recess we returned to 'face our first batte of final exams and 1 IY 2 , as predicted, they prunedyptit the deadwood from the sections. After a brief moment of re-evaluation we forged our way into the wilds of the second semester. appeared robe the Winter of the Beard,'and glance down hall would have made-a Gillette executive sell his stock. With the advent,.of spring, however, the facial shrubbery was pruned away, and we. found ourselves ,counting the days to summer vacation,Nand the prospect fiii of three months with no studies became our sustaining hope.
