FRONT ROW: Jones, Meachim, Kennedy, Hemenway, Borsini, Hourez. SECOND ROW: Ketchem, Clough, Condon, Mr. Robert Edwards, Coachg Woundy, Hotchkiss, Chester. RIFLE TEAM Through the efforts and co-operation of this team, Wentwortla Institute has had the finest rifle team in its recent history. The spirit of trying, of competitive effort, this winning spirit has caused them to reach third place in the Greater Boston Collegiate Rifle League. This can be measured as no small effort considering some of the giants that had to be slain. Undoubtedly the dominating factor in this team's success has been its fine collection of officers but other contributing factors can also be listed. Additional equipment played a large part by allowing better use of practice time. An expanded schedule also helped by allowing the team to completely dominate matches fired against schools, i.e., Mass. Bay Community College, Dean, that should be in our class. We have again seen fit to try shooting in the NRA Intercollegiate Sectional Matches at Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. The results of this year's records have been so favorable that We are considering expanding into the New England Collegiate League next year. Along with the effort involved in competitive shooting, three of the team members have attained NRA instructor's ratings and have assisted Mr. Edwards in conducting the NRA Rifle Training Courses here at Wentworth.

The opening game brought Wentworth an easy whitewashing of Newton junior College, 19-O, an impressive start. However, the team's next win didn't come until four games later, an 18-4 win over the same Newton team. In the meantime, they lost games to the Northeastern Frosh, 6-1, and Harvard junior Varsity, 8-0, and tied Burdett College, 12-12. The nrst half of the season ended with a win over Leicester Junior College, 5-1, in what was the best played game of the season. Wentworth's next encounter was a game with Leicester at the New England Baseball Tournament at Dean junior College. The game ended in Leicester's favor, 7-0. The second half of the season began with four straight loses. The winners of these games with the Black and Gold were Exeter Academy, 5-1, Worcester junior College, 8-7, Leicester, 5-1, and Suffolk Uni- versity, 8-7. The game with Suffolk proved to be the Hnal loss of the year as the Leopards rebounded to close out the season with a 6-5 victory over New Prep. and a shell-shocking of Maine Vocational Tech., 16-1 at Tech's home field in Portland, Maine. At the Awards Day Assembly, George Nyren was presented the Most Valuable Player Award and Dick Prentiss received the Milford W. Babcock Award. The determination of the winners of these awards was extremely hard as many players contributed greatly both as good ballplayers and good sportsmen through- out the year. Although graduation took a large number of letter- men, Coach Wlxittemore should come up with an- other winning combination with the help of a solid nucleus of returning lettermen and some promising freshmen.
