Last year at this time I was approached by the students of my section and asked to represent AET-IC in the election of Student Council Pres- ident. This was the greatest honor that had ever been be- stowed upon me by any of my friends. It was -for this reason that I put every possible effort into winning the election, although I truthfully thought that I didn't have a chance. However, thanks to the support of the men in my section, we came through on top. Our election cam- paign will remain as one of my most outstanding mem- ories of Wentworth Institute. I really feel that it was the best campaign of the election, thanks to my classmates. As you leave Wentworth, after two years of rigorous training and discipline, many of you will begin your careers immediately, others will probably go into the service, and still others will continue their education at another school. What ever course in life you may choose, it is my personal honor to wish each and every one of you the best of luck in all that you do. At the end of our graduation day, when we have all received our degrees, I'm sure that most of us will find cause to celebrate in one way or another. For the first few months, or even years after graduation, I'm also sure that many of us will curse the same things we griped about during our two years here. Too many items are in- cluded within this category to mention at this time, but l'm 30 sure we are all familiar with them. However, as our lives progress, we will slowly begin to realize that these very same things are the things that made us men. We will realize that they are what put us on a fighting level with graduates of four year colleges. We will realize also that they are the things that made us superior to graduates of other technical institutes. Not all of the credit for the Student Council's out- standing success this year should go to meg in fact, very little of it should go to me. The credit should go to the council members themselves and to you, the student body. They and you are the ones who made possible every achievement this year. I would like to mention each coun- cil member individually, but space does not permit. How- ever, I think special recognition should go to Dean Major, our Vice-President, Merton Piper, our Secretary, and Ed- ward Sanchez, our Treasurer, for their moral support and the excellent job they have done this year. This, being the first office of any kind I have ever held, means a very great deal to me. It is not the office itself, but the fact that you chose me as your representa- tive that means so much. At the beginning of the year I knew that I was a bit shaky as to the duties and respon- sibilities of my office, but as the year progressed I hope that I proved myself worthy of your expectations. I shall cherish the memory of your respect and confidence in me for the rest of my life. Respectfully yours, james Murrells
