jim ltffm Signifying The Greek Ideal of the Artist Artisan Forty-two years ago the editors, after deliberation, selected a name for the school yearbook: a name representative of the aims of the Institute. TEKTON is taken from the Greek and its meaning is given as a builder or craftsman. The English derivative, HTECTONICSH, may convey an even clearer meaning: The science or art by which implements, vessels, and buildings are con- structed both as relates to their use and to their artistic design. There has been added through the course of time, to the original meaning of this old Greek word, something of the quality that modern civilization has learned always to associate with the craftsmanship of ancient Greece-the artist quality, the search for highest excellence, the constant striving for ideal standards, what we describe in other fields as the professional spirit. TEK- TON, therefore, signifies the artist-craftsman and is truly representative of Wentworth Institute. X
