ifd eam The confusion of returning to studies again from a quiet summer had hardly been put aside when tryouts were begun. Having selected out of a new crop of nearly fifty freshmen, five new candidates, we went to work to make this team the best team in years. The team faced some of the toughest teams in the East, including M.I.T., North- eastern, Harvard, B.U., and B.C. It is interesting to note that despite VVentworth's handicap of being a two year school, it was still able to keep within one or two points on either side of its competitors. Either because of new, stiff competition coming up through the ranks or possibly due to the fact that they are graduating, Captain Gerald Gent, Arthur Paisley, Edward Smithurst, and Robert Benedict will not be firing next year. Coaching this year's impressive team were two members of VVentworth's faculty, Mr. Robert Edwards, and Mt. David Sturgis. Both these men contributed a great deal to a successful year. FRONT ROW: Mr. Edwards, Ctmcf'a,' Gent, Captainj Smithurst, Benedict, Paisley, Lipman, Mamzger. SECOND ROW: Ripley, Ylonen, Talbot, Shelales, Amann, Bonner.

gClfJLefLa! A determined group of hrst year men reported for the early practices. Included in this group were two men, Don Mancini and Rich Clemente, who are presently making Wentworth athletic history. They are both in the process of breaking the scoring records of the school. Captain Lavoie has played well all season and Coach Bertschy considers him to be one of the finest guards he has ever coached. Bill Whalenls return at mid season helped to spark the team, as he continued to score in the same manner as he did in his first year of play. Mark Paquette, a 6' 8 center was the only other second year player. He had no previous experience and is to be congratulated on his performance in college ranks. Paul Bleau, senior manager of the team, deserves an extra thank you for the excellent manner in which he has performed his duties. The highlights of the year so far, have been victories over Emerson College, cur- rent leader of the Greater Boston Small College League, 93-78, Worcester junior College, 87-75, at Worcester, Roger Williams junior College, 84-81, at Providence, and Calvin Collidge College, 75-51. At this writing we still have games with M.I.T. junior Varsity, Becker junior College and Calvin Coolidge College. This season concludes the coaching career of Mr. Bertschy. He will be missed by the coaches, referees, and his team, as he is respected in athletic circles. FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Morse, Watkins, Smith, Caruso, Bellefeville. ZND ROW: Losordo, Lavoie, Potter, Clemente, Mancini. SRD ROW: Bleau, Manager, Kwesell, Wilson Paquette, Banas, Milne, Coach Bertschy. NOT IN PICTURE: Domblcowski, Scanlon, Wilson -T'

BOWLING TEAM FRONT ROW: Spoon, Carrington, Foley, Lufty, Mitchell, Riley. ZND ROW: Zona, Secretaryg Burgess, Verrico, Matteau, Kalman, Zawadzki. g0lfUAI'lg 2CtglfLe6 During the early part of October the leagues were organized with thirty-six teams competing. The first semester schedule ended the week before exams with AM-2A winning the 5:50 league championship and AET-2B the 4150 championship. In the playoff, the AET-2B team composed of P. Rieley, F, Spoon and X. Sarnbor was declared semester champs. The AM-2A members were R. Lufty, N. Kalman, W. Matteau and J. Manning. In the lead for yearly scoring honors was F. Spoon with a high single of 150 and and also the high average of 1049, C. Tedford is hoping his high triple of 348 will carry him through. After final exams 26 teams signed up for the spring semester with the hope of dropping AM and AET from the top of their respective leagues and also trying to overcome the scoring leads held by Spoon and Tedford.
