Le CM To render an opportunity for singing excellent music in an organized group is, and will be for years to come, the primary purpose of the Wentworth Glee Club. Each year the members of the Glee Club have the chance to sing many types of music. Selections this year included Negro spirituals, ballads, folk songs, marching songs, and popular tunes. Some of the songs were sung at the Presidents convocations throughout the year for the enjoyment of the student body. However, the greatest effort was put into the two big annual events, choral singing on Boston Common at Christmas and the Spring Musicale in May. Under the careful direction of Mr. Edward B, Whittredge, and the accompanist, Mr. Samuel Adams, the group was well prepared for these two events. The Musicale proved enjoyable from two standpoints. The singing itself was excel- lent, but more impressive were the wonderful improvements over previous years - a result of the impetus from such events during the year. It is doubtful that anyone left the auditorium after hearing the selections without feeling that he had witnessed a marvelous example of cooperation and effort toward a common goal. In addition to the regular Glee Club, the Double Quartet provided entertainment throughout the year. This is a relatively new group started last year by Mr. Whittredge and made up of the more capable members of the Glee Club. Members of the Double Quartet this year were David Sycamore, Lewis Pelletier, Jr., Peter Cerniglia, Fred Met- calf, Phil Williams, james Robinson, Bob Ireland, and George Jessop. With soloists David Sycamore and Bob Ireland in the leads, the double quartet has proved itself to be a lasting part of the Glee Club's program. No small amount of work was responsible for the quality of this year's Glee Club. It was a credit to the skill of the director, the advisors, Mr. Cheney and Mr. Haratunian, and to each and every member.

amz The Wentworth Institute band, plagued by the usual problem of insufficient rehearsal time, again came through with the high caliber music that the student body, faculty, and administration have come to expect. The success of the band this year was due to the leadership of Director William Tesson, faculty advisors Mr. Lang, Mr. Esterberg, and to the hard work of the band members themselves. . Most of the music played by the band this year was from popular musicals and movies such 'as Exodus, - Milk and Honey, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Along with the idea that the club period is not supposed to be all work and no play, the band took some time off from rehearsing for convocations and played just for the fun of it. The favorite piece at these sessions was Salute the Duke, a medley of jazz man Duke Ellington's most famous songs. ' The band was not all seriousness at the convocations either as one frightened Student Council Representative can tell you. He was almost decapitated by a low flying cymbal. The ofiicers of the band this year were President, William Lauer, MEPII, Secre- tary, Kerry Drakes, AET-Ig and Librarian John Delaney, MEPII. It is composed of all the class section presidents who are elected by their respective classes. The four Student Council officers are a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer who are second-year men elected to ofiice by the student body at the end of their first year. Committees are formed within the Council for the purpose of performing duties and tending to functions for the students, both social and non-social. Among the out- standing committees this year were the Dance Committee, the T.C.H. Clubs Commit- tee, and the Christmas Party Committee. Probably the most memorable accomplishment for the Dance Committee was the Senior Prom, this being the first year in several that it was held outside of school. The prom was held at the Totem Pole with Bob Bacheldor doing the honors. Many thanks go to Paul Bleau and his men for one of the best proms this school has seen. The T.C.H. Clubs Committee is charged with reviewing the allotment of funds to the many different Technical, Cultural, and Hobby Clubs. Brian McKee and his committee did a fine job during the first half of the year, and during the second half of the year, he took over the tiresome job of handling the talent show. Every year at Christmas time, the Student Council sponsors a Christmas Party for underprivileged children. The necessary funds are contributed by the student body. The Christmas Party Committee, under the direction of Raymond Bellefeville, deserves special credit for an outstanding and successful party this year. Joe Bellino, noted foot- ball star, was a surprise guest at the party. Other accomplishments by the Student Council this year included many ufirstsf' Among these was the splitting up of the meetings on Tuesdays. Committee meetings were held for the first 15 minutes of the period, and on the following Thursday the committees reported to the council on their progress. This system enabled the com- mittees to have a regular meeting time and also kept the council well informed as to the effectiveness of each committee. A Parliamentarian was appointed to office for the first time. Thomas Field soon found himself well versed in Robert's Rules of Order and did a fine job of keeping order during the meetings. He proved that a Parliamentarian is a vital part of Went- worth's Student Council. Probably the achievement most beneficial to the entire student body, faculty, and administration was the establishing of Wentworth's Inter-mural Communication Sys- tem. This is the only, system of its kind in the area and the Student Council deserves the credit for setting it up on a trial basis which proved to be an amazing success. It is now an integral part of the school. t Thanks to the hard working council members, the guidance of Mr. Avtgis and Mr. Powers, and the cooperation of the student body, this was one of the Student Council's most successful years at Wentworth Institute. f7Ae Student
