elaoo gfiotory It is hard to believe that four years have passed since that day in '56 when we first entered high school. Entering high school, we felt very important until we saw the upperclassmen, then we realized we weren't as important as we thought. It took us quite a while to get in the full swing of high school life, but with the help of our advisors, Mr. Butler and Mr. Sharp, We soon took our place. Our Freshman class officers were: President, Linda Vaden, Vice President, Kaye Patterson, Secretary, jo Ann French, Treasurer, Cindy Wimbish, Reporter, Carolyn Powell. That year we had a chance to join clubs and participate in different school activities. We had one girl, Linda Vaden, on the varsity basketball team. We also had one boy, Wayne Joyce, on the baseball team. One year later we were Sophomores. We found out that year that high school isn't all play. Officers were: President, Gayle Earles, Vice President, Kaye Patterson, Secretary, Douglas Taylor, Reporter, Kennon Roberson, Treasurer, Donald Miller. Our advisors for that year were Miss Barrier and Mr. Sharpe. The proud members of our class wearing Beta pins were Carolyn Powell, Linda Vaden, Gracie Corum, Kennon Roberson and Douglas Taylor. Those making the varsity basketball teams were Faye Carter, Gayle Earles, Freddie Ratliff, Wayne Joyce and Kennon Roberson. Freddie also made the baseball team. Kaye Patterson became a cheerleader. That was a very big year for our girls in the beauty pageant. Linda Vaden was crowned Miss Wentworth High and Cindy Wimbish was second runner-up. After what seemed to be a very short vacation, we returned to take our place as juniors. With anticipation for a great year, we elected class officers, who were: President, Archie Roberts, Vice President, Joe Purgason, Secretary, Hazel Smith, Treasurer, Kathryn Paige, Reporter, Dorothy Hutchens. Our advisors, Mrs. Wright and Mr. Smith, were our guiding lights through the many events of that year. We ordered our class rings, and when they came we were thrilled to death. Early in the year we began to think about the junior-Senior Banquet. Finally the big night came. The theme was A Song in My Heart. It took a lot of work combined with a lot of fun, but it was worth all of the work because there was never a prettier banquet. Elmer King, Donald Miller, Mary Gray Caudle, Kathryn Paige andHazel Smith were invited into the Beta Club. Many of the members of the class became officers of clubs. Frances Scott, Evelyn Hamlett and Lucille Carter became members of the varsity basketball team, which was County Champion for l959. Becky Carter, Mary Gray Caudle, Cindy Wimbish and Carolyn Powell became cheerleaders. We were very proud of Mary Gray Caudle, who was second runner-up in the beauty pageant. The coveted honor of being marshals went to Hazel Smith, Chief, Linda Vaden, Kennon Roberson, Douglas Taylor and Donald Miller. We concluded our junioryear by working on the rose chain for graduation, and having a. party at Lynrock. We soon realized that we were Seniors. Looking forward to graduation and the many events of the year, we elected the following class officers: President, joe Purgason, Vice President, Gayle Earles, Recording Secretary, Hazel Smith, Corresponding Secretary, Marilea Moore, Treasurer, Kathryn Paige, Chaplain, Kennon Roberson, Parliamentarian, Douglas Taylor, Reporter, Linda Vaden, Songleaders, Brenda Bailey and Carolyn Powell. Mrs. Rankin, our advisor, seemed always to be d-iere when needed to help solve our many problems. Many of our class members were presidents of clubs. Linda Vaden, Gayle Earles and Freddie Ratliff were elected co-captains of the basketball teams. Kaye Patterson was elected chief cheerleader. Again we were proud of our girls in the beauty pageant. Mary Gray Caudle was crowned MissWentworth High and CindyWimbish was first runner-up. Many other important events took place during our Senior year---too many to name. As we look back over the past four years, we remember many happy experiences that we have shared together. Al- though we had many misunderstandings, everything seemed always to work out okay. It is difficult to find words to ex- press our gratitude to those who have helped us. As we leave Wentworth, we realize we may never meet again on this earth, but we will have the sweet memories of our high school days. LINDA VADEN Historian 20
