As we look at it now we think of how quickly the time has passed since then, and we see all of our good times together. Oh, how big we felt to be Freshmen! Our class officers were: President, Nelson Gunn, Vice President, Brenda Roberts, Secretary, Coralie Moran, Treasurer, Bennie Trent, and Reporter, Lucy Thomas. Our advisors who guided us through our first trying year were Mrs. Exum and Mr. Dallas. This year for the first time we had a chance to join clubs and to participate in different school activities. Bennie Trent and Jerome Barrett made the baseball team. We also had one girl, Sonja Smothers, on the basket- ball team. Another thing we enjoyed this year was the class parties we had. Then we took one more big step, we were Sophomores. Our class officers were: President, Jimmy Jonesg Vice President, Freddie Brimg Secretary, Hazeleen Forbisg Treasurer, Sarah Harveyp and Reporter, John Jarrell. Our advisors for this year were Miss Edmondson and Mr. Sharpe. During this year many of our girls and boys received the honor of becoming members of the Beta Club. Those who made the varsity basket- ball team this year were: Betty Carter, Lucy Thomas, Ann Williams, Coralie Moran, Preston Cox, Nelson Gunn, William Earles, Larry Woods, and Bennie Trent. Sarah Harvey became a cheerleader. Larry Woods, William Earles, and Jimmy Jones were on the baseball team, Members of our class held offices in many clubs this year, making this a very good year for us. Boy, did we have a lot of fun our Junior year! We were really proud of our class rings and the Junior-Senior Banquet qwhich we paid for by selling magazinesy. Our class officers were: President, Brenda Roberts, Vice President, Jimmy Jonesg Secretary, Freddie Brim, Treasurer, Larry Woods, and Reporter, John Jarrell. Our advisors this year were Mr. Smith and Mr. Gentry. Those making the baseball team were Paul Doss, Freddie Brim, and Wayne Barber. Wayne Clifton and Freddie Brim made the basketball team. The marshals were: Betty Carter, chiefg Lucy Thomas, Sonja Smothers, Brenda Roberts, Bennie Trent and Coralie Moran. This was a year we truly enjoyed. Now we are Seniors. This is the realization of a long dream. Our class officers are: President, Larry Woods, Vice President, Nelson Gunn, Recording Secretary, Jimmy Jones, Corresponding Secretary, Barbara Longg Treasurer, Freddie Brim, and Reporter, Sarah Harvey. Our advisor is Mrs. Rankin. Many of our members hold the highest of- fices in the clubs this year. Betty Carter, Lucy Thomas, Nelson Gunn, and William Earles are the co-captains of the basketball teams. Hilda Carter made the basketball team. Anne Williams and Ervin Roberts are cheerleaders. Sarah Harvey was chosen chief cheerleader for this year. As we look back over our achievements in high school we see that we turned out to be a fine group of people. We know that there were many misunderstandings, but we have come to love one another so much that we hate to part. We know that we can't stay together forever, so instead we have these memories of the best years of our lives. Lucy Thomas Class Historian Greater Achievement A cold fall day twelve years ago - How could we ever forget that day, The day when each set his individual tempo, To match the test, come what may. On through the years with trouble and strife, While each made his mark and hallowed his name - Achievements galore to last all our life, To aid in the quest for fortune and fame. We've lived as a family at Ole Wentworth Highg Now we are parting and saying so-long, While each recalls with many a sigh, The wonderful times while edging along. So here's to the future and what it may bring, And to the brave teachers who've labored with usg As loud and joyously our shouts do ring, We know that forever they'll remember us. Bennie Trent Chief Marshal - BETTY CARTER BRENDA ROBERTS CORA LIE MORAN BENNY TRENT LUCY THOMAS SONIA GUNN fast Wi!! and 276 Inman! I, Paul Doss, leave in my white auto. Testator Pleas McMichael Praphecy As my history students wildly left the room after the last bell, I looked up and saw I had a visitor, Curtis Gaulden. It was our first day of teaching in the same school. I asked him how Barbara and the children were. Fine, he replied, except her work is just too dangerous. She's a policewoman you know. All this led to our planning a class reunion, The day finally arrived. Jean Conner and her husband, Jimmy Chaney, were the first to arrive. Jean is now head Laboratory Technician at Anne Penn Memorial Hospi- tal in Reidsville. Then all of them began to arrive. As I milled through the crowd I learned quite a few things about my former classmates. Anne Williams operates the Glamour Beauty Salon in N. Y.: seems as if several of our girls are in the beauty business. Shirley Roberts and Frances Odell are co-owners and operators of the most expensive Beauty Shop in town. There are two darling children over in the corner. I wonder who they are? Here come their parents. Why, it's Bennie Trent and Nancy Strader. From all reports of his Crusades, Bennie has become an outstanding evangelist. It looks as if we're having a Secretary's convention. I've found four already: Betty Carter, who is now Betty Hubbard, Mary Sue Crowder, a medical secretary for Pleas McMichael, the new dentist in town, and finally Hilda Carter and Nancy Arthur, who are private secretaries for a large insurance firm. Well, here's something different. Jean Haskins is an Airline Hostess, Isn't fate strange, Jean's last flight was piloted by Wayne Clifton. Wayne always did want to travel. I wonder if he knew it would be as a pilot on a commercial air line. We really do have some outstanding graduates. John Jarrell especially. He is now a government scientist, He's working on something top -secret, so that's all I know about him. Jimmy Jones is the chief engineer in the Chrysler Corporation. His love of the Plymouth Fury really paid off. Paul Doss and Ervin Roberts have made a name for themselves. Paul is Vice President of Fieldcrest Mills and Ervin is head of the Laboratory department at Du Pont. Brenda Roberts is operating an exclusive Interior Decorating Establishment. I hear she's pretty good, too. Lucy Thomas' good math grades in High School have really paid off, She is head mathematician for the Atomic Energy plant at Oak Ridge. Quite a few of our boys have made a career of military service. Preston Cox is a jet pilot, Freddie Brim is the General at the U,S, Air Force Cadet School, and William Earles, who is a tough Marine stationed at Paris Island. With him is Roger Lemons. Buddy Delancey is in the Armyg Wayne Barber and Rodney O'Dell are in the Air Force, Here come two late ones. It's Larry Woods and Nelson Gunn. I guess they've been on a case and were delayed, They're two of Rockingham County's best Highway Patrol- men, Who is that family beside the piano? Why, it's Joanne Belton Williams and one, no two, my goodness she and Bobby have three children. We only have one farmer, That's Freddie Caudle, Three of our girls are farmer's wives, though. They are Sarah Harvey, Doris Jessie and Louise Rakestraw. This wonderful day has come to an end. We 're all wondering what next year will bring to the Wentworth High School Class of '58, Coralie Moran x , rf '. ,ALJEV 3 L fy tl J l ' 'if 1 if I I fi J Jqiwiggg X-'ix' A b iies Best All-Around LUCY THOMAS JOHN .TARRELL Biggest Baby BARBARA LONG Best Dancer SHIRLEY ROBERTS ERVIN ROBERTS PENN PLANTATION Site of Superlative Pictures Best Dressed FRANCIS O'DELL CURTIS GA ULDEN . ,W X.. ww- JIMMY JONES ,s:r., 1,,.ri,,,.,,, ttzt Q .5.:r1,,:,.., trr, . , .r.., .
