It is hard to realize that four years have passed since we became freshmen. It took us quite awhile to get used to being addressed as freshmen, but when we did, we were really a part of the school. Our advisors were Mrs. Thompson, Mr. Williams and Mr. Sharpe. Our freshman class officers were: Betty Fretwell, presidentg Bobby Paige, vice presidentg John Dallas, secretary, Betty Jean Carter, treasurer. The proud wearers of the blue and gold on the basketball court were Patsy Patterson and Betty Fretwell. Edward Meador made the base- ball team. Leading the yells was Peggy Walker with Sarah Lemons, Jo Anne Lasley, and Jack Roberts helping her. To climax the year the freshmen joined the sophomores for a party. One year later and we were sophomores! Our sophomore advisors were Mr. Gentry and Mr. Gailey. The officers were: Alice McMichael, president, Jack Roberts, vice president, Betty Fretwell, secretary and Billy Knighten, treasurer. Thr proud members of our class wearing Beta Club pins were: Sarah Lemons, Ruth Kelly, Jo Anne Lasley, Alice McMichael, Reida Wilson, Helen Lindsey, Doris Carter, Harold Vaden and Donald Gunn. Shirley Brown, Betty J. Carter, Reida Wilson and Anne Quackenbush made the girls' basketball team. Franklin Witty and Bobby Paige made the boys' basketball team. The boys making the baseball team were: Johnny McCollum, Bobby Paige, Donald Gunn, Ray Carroll and Franklin Witty. Peggy Walker was first runner-up in the Miss Wentworth contest. Johnie Collins was second runner- up. After a short vacation we returned for our Junior year, which was filled with many happy events. Our advisors were Mr. Harrelson and Mr. Gentry. Junior officers were: Jo Anne Lasley presidentg Reida Wilson, vice presidentg Bobby Paige, secretary, Harold Vaden, treasurer, and Helen Lindsey, reporter. We really were excited when we ordered our class rings and the biggest thrill ever came when we got them. Anne Quackenbush, Billie Jarrell, Patsy Patterson, Inez Jarrell, Shirley Brown, and John McCollum were invited into the Beta Club. Johnie Collins Peggy Walker, and Shelby McClung made the girls' basketball team of which Patsy Patterson was co-captain. Malcolm Cox and Donald Gunn made the boys' team. Harold Vaden received the honor of being elected vice president of the Student Council. Billie Jarrell became a Cheerleader. Johnie Collins won the coveted title of Miss Wentworth. We worked very hard on the magazine sales campaign in order to have the greatest Junior-Senior banquet ever. Jo Anne Lasley was high salesman with several members of the class running very close. Months ahead we started on the banquet. Finally the big night came. The theme was An Old Fash- ioned Garden. There was never a prettier banquet. The class all agreed that it was well worth the work put into it. The coveted honor of being Marshals went to Ruth Kelly, Jo Anne Lasley, Sarah Lemons, Doris Jane Carter, Donald Gunn, and Harold Vaden, with Alice McMichael, chief. It wasn't long before we realized that we were Seniors! With the following officers: Harold Vaden, presidentg Donald Gunn, vice president, Betty Fretwell, secretaryg Inez Jarrell, treasurer, Alice McMichael, corresponding secretaryg Edward Meador, reporter, and Mrs. Rankin as advisor, we proceeded onward toward graduation. Harold Vaden was elected presi- dent of the Student Council. Doris Carter made the basketball team. Although our four years at Wentworth High were short, we have had many happy experiences and made acquaintances that will remain a part of us forever. As we leave our school it is not with regret that we say Goodbye, but we wish to express our gratitude for its affording us the four happiest years of our lives. Sarah Lemons, Historian 0606 OUR THANKS TO OLE WENTWORTH HIGH We the seniors of Ole Wentworth High, Will always be grateful to you till we die. We will always remember the days we have spent, And how much they have really meant. Yes, we all can remember the days of long ago, When we all were children walking to and fro. They were the good ole days at Ole Wentworth High, When we think of them now we can only sigh. Ole Wentworth High we'll be grateful to you, All the rest of our days be they many or few. We the seniors of the class fifty-five, Wish we could relive those days at Ole Wentworth High. In a few years we'll be happily married, But still we'll remember where so oft we tarried. To Ole Wentworth High School who gave us our start, We must say that soon we must all part. We the seniors of the class fifty-five, Leave Ole Wentworth High School our grateful goodbys. Today I received a letter from one of my classmates and it made me bring out my old '55 annual and browse through it. I remember when I was a Senior, they never be- leived that I would go through with my plan to be a nurse, but I did and now I'm very happy with my husband, two chil- dren and my job as a nurse, Let's look back through the class and see the goals achieved by the Wentworth High School Class of 1955, It seems that Harold Vaden iinally decided to put his knack for blue print drawing into good use. He is now a well known architect, I bumped into Carolyn Crumpton and the twins fseems Charles Boyd chased her until she finally caught hirnj on the Wentworth Express recently. I'll bet they were both surprized to iind that their driver was W. R. Carver, They probably had a regular class re-union on the company's time. ' I'll bet John Dallas' Hash House has the prettiest electric signs in town, he used to be pretty good with electric gadgets, I tuned in on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts the other night and who should I hear but Reida Wilson. Rise Stevens had better cling to her laurel's 'cause Rita has the makings of a great singer. Say! Weren't those jets that just landed flown by Bobby Paige and Ray Carrol? Well, I always did say their love for speed would soon get them in the air. I see Betty Jean Carter helping her husband Bobby Turner in their new Zesto place. They own a chain over the country, you know. Inear Doris Carterisaveryefficient wife, Maybe her Home Economics did her some good after all. Patsy Patterson, back at ole W. H. S. after a seige in college, is the girls' coach and physical education teacher, Peggy Walker decided to follow her husband, She's working near the Air Force base as a personnel worker, Ruth Kelly, Ola Hutchins, and Audrey Parrish are now secretaries for their husbands. They were always good in typing, but no one ever guessed they would marry their boss, Barbara Dallas and Helen Lindsey are making quite a place for themselves in the nursing profession, Anne Quackenbush is married - She's spending all her time raising four little Paschals. Billy Knighten is now county coroner, He'll get the Class of '55 yet! Say, VVhat's this? Buy your tickets for the game tonight, Franklin Witty formerly of Wentworth, now stars for the New York Yankees. Betty Fretwell and husband are owners of Wentworth Soda Shoppee. She was ducking the revenue man because she used her ovsm bookkeeping system. Edward Meadow is making big moneyg at least he was before his press broke down. Billie Jarrell got a scholarship to college because of her cheerleading abilities, and you know what? She's still there, coaching those famous college cheerleaders. Jack Roberts' dancing feet finally paid off. He's starring in the latest MGM musical. The Indianapolis Race just ended and who should step out of the winning car but Albert Vernon. Sarah Lemons, a talented interior decorator, is now married to an Air Force officer, Donald Gunn, always was good at basketball, but we never dreamed he would someday play for the Minneapolis Lakers! Nancy Stewart married her ole flame and settled down to raise a family, Malcolm Cox and John McCollum are two of the most successful farmers of our day. The Collins' Poultry Markets have become a chain since Johnie joined her father as a partner, Jean Earles and Betty Williams have changed their last names, but the housework got so boring that they are now running a Rest Home for the graduates of '55, Shelby McClung's beautiful brown eyes finally won her a job as a photographer's model, Alice McMichael, the girl who made such good grades in high school is now a professor at the University of North Carolina. Ruby King, who loved to fix hair in high school now has a beauty shop of her own, staying busy trying to make the girls of the Class of '55 look beautiful. Since Audrey Thomas became a doctor 's wife, she has finally overcome her fear of disecting frogs. James Cayton made his hitch in the Air Force pay off, He's now a Colonel, heading the Air Force Facilities at Cherry Point, North Carolina. Well, there it is Diary, the goals achieved by the Class of '55, We really didn't do so badly did we? We caused a lot of gray hairs to be added to the noble heads of the faculty, but we meant well with all our noise and wise cracks. We were a happy lot and still are. We could always find something at which to laugh, as long as one can do that, one pretty much has the world by the tail already. We 've come a long way and it hasn't been easy. We had many good opportunities, but they usually came disguised as hard work, That's all for now, Good night, Diary. jo Anne Lasley' Prophet Ngfaeanzdngn , 'A 'J . . - 1 91' A Q.
