We were very much excited over our new status as real high school students. After our first excitementhad subsided,we began to get into the swing of high school life, under the watchful eyes of Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Jus- tice. We elected class officers, with Ray Apple president of one section and Florence Odell, president of the other section. Since we were the babies of the high fschool, we didn't expect too much recognition in school activities, but Dean Apple, Ray Apple, and Juanita Cox made the basketball team, and we had a good party at Christmas. Before we knew it, the year was completed and we were nowSophomores. We entered our second 1 ear with a lot more confidence. Our president was Weaver Wrenn and!Mr. Sheridan became our adviser. This year our added experience gave us more influence in school life. Six girls and seven boys won coveted basketball suits, and our class was well re- presented in all other school activities. The Beta Club increased its membership by taking in three members of our class. They were: Sarah Mitchell, Juanita Cox, and Jeanie Sawyers. A weiner roast concluded our Sophomore year. When we returned as Juniors in the fall of '52 we were much excited. There were our rings to order, magazines to sell and numerous activi- ties leading up to the all important Junior-Senior Banquet, at which we were to be hosts. Mr. Grogan was our adviser. Carol Walker was elected president: Ray Apple, vice-president, W. A. Wall, secretary, and Barbara Stone, treasurer. Juanita Arnold, Carol Walker, and Jay Patterson be- came members of the Beta Club. Sarah Mitchell, Juanita Cox, Jeanie Sawyers, Carol Walker, and Jay Patterson won the coveted honor of being marshals for the Commence- ment exercises. Sarah Mitchell was chief. We were sorry to see our schoolmates graduate but were glad to be replacing them as seniors. Returning for our final year in September, l952,with Mrs. Rankin as our guiding hand, we were thrilled with the thought, We are seniors. Earl Stone was elected president, Bobby Minter, vice-president, W. N. Duke, secretaryg Ray Apple,treasurer3 and W. A. Wall, reporter. Again our boys and girls were outstanding in the various activities. Beverly Moore became amember of the Beta Club. The chief things accomplished were the class play, work on the Golden Leaves and preparations for graduation. The Junior-Senior was an event that we shall always remember. It was wonderful to be honored in this way. There were many other socials and numerous trips that will long be remembered. Graduation was upon us before we knew it. This history ended when we received our diplomas, but each individual will write his own future history through his deeds. SARAH MITCHELL Historian 12 ? It seems as if I have just wakenedfrom along sleep. Iwas dreaming about the future, and I saw New York City with its bright lights and throngs of people. In New York I also saw Jeanie Sawyers and her famous ball-player husbandwho are quite happily married. Juanita Arnold, with her long blond hair, is a photographer's model. Carol Walker, a talented secretary, is now married and has two children. Back home in Wentworth I saw Ray McCann, he is the manager of Went- worth's new T. V. Station. On the program is one of our former class- mates, Betty Jean Chilton, who got her start in the entertainment world by doing the Charleston in High School. Well, there's Sarah Mitchell Know Mrs. Earl Boyd, with her two children. Her next door neighbor is Bar- bara Rodgers, whose husband owns and operates a florist shop. Duke needing everything he has, takes it all with him. W. A. Wall Testator 14 poem We, the seniors, of Wentworth High, Know too well how time does fly, Since we were small and started to school To learn to live by the Golden Rule. We rose early and hurried each day, And studied hard along the way, Until at last our goal is near, This we realize is our last year. Someday we'll think about our past, The twenty-seven students in our classy We'll remember our happiness and joy, With each girl and each boy. The many friends from which we part, We leave them with a heavy heart, Our departure, we hope, will cause everyone, To remember only the good things we have done We look to our future as a mountain top: Our graduation as just a stop: Where we rest to gather strength, For our adventurous journey of great length. With tear in our eyes we must leave This grand old school, but we believe, That we'll always remember Wentworth High And the fun we had in days gone by. Now with our future goal in view, Wentworth we are proud of you! Hoping that remembering us you may, Be very proud of us someday.
