DAVID LEE IJODSON .1 ' Reporter YQQLGHKQQY The Boss illlgii , 0, JUL CARL WHEELER My ' Assistant Chief The Safety Council of Wentworth has done connnend- able work this year. Conditions were much improved in the halls. classrooms. in the cafeteria. and on the school grounds. Much of the credit belongs to the Safety Council. What is this organization? The Council is a special kind of police. It patrols the school grounds. the halls, the cafeteria. and calls the second and third floors to Chie , , , f lunch. The Council also helps the principal and teachers in every possible way. It gives valuable assistance to the Student Council. Carl Wheeler. the Council Chief. makes the following commentary on the Patrol or Council: LThe Patrol could be made more effective in the halls. in the cafeteria. and on the grounds if the students would realize that they are just as much a Patrol member as the elected officials. ln reality we are all policemen if we obey laws or rules. lf. on the other hand. we disobey rules we become 'criminalsf ln school we are crimi- nals if we run in the halls . . . and violate other rules. In doing these misdeeds we cause others to follow. We should be leaders or good followers. Certainly. we donit want to set a bad example for others to follow. The Safety Council is expected to teach people right from wrong. punishing the ones who deserve it..- The Patrol is composed of a chief. an assistant chief and two other assistants. A valuable organization is the Student Council of Wentworth High School, for in its power is the respon- sibility for regulating school life. Relations between the faculty and students is carried on in a friendly, informal manner through the watchfulness and cooperativeness of the governing body. Members of the Council have hag a busy Fall, Winter and Spring, attending the various tudent Council func- tions in the county and state. The school was well repre- sented at the annual Student Council Convention at Char- lotte, North Carolina. Many members attended the county meetings held at the various schools. The twenty-two members of the Council have learned and are learning a valuable lesson in democracy and in the training of our young people. Through the efforts of Mrs. Edna Cobb, the faculty advisor and head of the Commercial Department, the Future Business Leaders of America chapter was formed. Thus, FBLA became the second national club in our school. The purposes of FBLA are to develop competent, aggressive business leadership, to develop character, train for useful citizenship, and foster patriotismg to strengthen the confidence of young men and women in themselves and their work, to encourage members in the development of individual projectsg to create more interest in choice of business occupations: and to encourage and practice thrift. FBLA has been one of the most active clubs. Members have gathered information first handi' by visiting the telephone offices, post office, banks, insurance firms and other business places. Zac De' The rising hours are early . . . five to six in the morning and long before the chicks jump off the roost. But the bus drivers brave the elements to get the students of Wentworth High School safely to and from school. The responsibility is great, for there is an expensive bus to care for. Too, seven hundred boys and girls depend upon the bus drivers. To the boys who pilot the buses we doff our hats in appreciation for a good job well done. rg ax? CARVER MRS. H. H. GILLEY MRS. JESSIE LINDSEY MRS. P.-XVI, BONDYRANT Often we forget the services which are rendered daily. After so long a period we gradually accept them as part of the routine of school life. Too. we frequently forget the women of our cafeteria who strive daily to please our insatiable appetites. our little whims. our little fancies. Without that delicious meal awaiting us at the noon hour the day would be very long and to some of us an impossibility. judging by the manner we go to the cafeteria. To Mrs. Lindsey. our cafeteria supervisor. and to Mrs. Carver, Mrs. Gilley. and our newest mem- ber, Mrs. Bonclurant, the school wishes to say Thanks for keeping us happyf' To Aunt Gracei' and all the others who make possible our cafeteria organization a hearty 8'Thanks.
