QRQQEQQU Class of 1948: a curtain slowly rises. An arch appears with tho inscription, 'The Class of l948.n Beyond the arch I see a great cele- bration taking place. It is the dedication of a new building, and the U.S. Senator Fred Burton, the president of your class, is the speaker. The scene changes, and a wedding is taking place in a lovely church The bride and groom are Bettiejane Gunn and Henry Sandi. The minister performing the cermony is Moody Roberts. Excitement prevails. A mill strike is taking place in Wentworth. The owners of mill, Hubert Parks and Edgar Cox, are rushing here and there trying to quiet the mob. They willfsucceed, for their cause is just. A lecturer's platform. A familiar voice is pleading for a pension for old maids after sixty. Loise Stratton is presenting the cause. The glaring lights of 45nd Street and Broadway make it hard for me to read the sign I see. Oh yes, Mary Frances Duke is staring in NThe Ziegfield Follies.n Her training began right here in Wentworth High School. What is that I hear? It is a parade led by Oberia Carroll and Myrna Comer carrying placecards which read, uTax the Bachelors. A worthy cause, they cla1m.n In the West on a ranch I see Dorothy Dove and Reid Baker living gained A Evelyg happily filling their pockets with gold and their bodies with health from the great outdoors of the West. beauty parlor with the sign uNothing Is Impossiblen I see Rakestraw as manager and seated under the hair dryer and per- iili .7 waving machine are Virginia Wall, who is trying to make herself beautiful for her husband and little boy, and Juanita Gann, who has to keep up her appearance as receptionist in her husbands office in Winston-Salem. A syndicated column entitled nAdvlce to The Lovelornn appears in the leading daily papers in the United States. Upon inquiring as to the writer, I have learned that it is Otis McCollum. He gained early experience by his affair with Sara Ann Collins in high school. Sara Ann is manager of a Day Nursery. Jer devotion to children prompted her to take up this work. In I'l18T16I'1t Carter In signer buyers a large store I see a of your class. Paris many buyers are of millinery. Who is are Edgar Cox, Hubert new style expert, very chic. It is Lois grouped around the office of a great de- he? Oh, I see it is Roy Draper, and the Parks, and Melvin Strader. All is quiet. A large white building houses a funeral establish- ment with a woman dressed in white working patientlyg she is the head undertaker, Delores Boyd. Look! I see in large headlines that Bonnell Evans, the great 'Broadway comedian, is going to take Jack Benny's place in a Jello program. Again the scene changes. This time I precelve a lone little man, bald-headed, henpecked, miserable, standing before a Chautauqua schedule He is easily recoginzed as Bobby Vernon. Dorothy Thomas, teacher of Home Economics in Greensboro, is check- ing to oe sure that all of her students' patterns are laid correctly. Margie Dove and Katie Griffin are walking down the aisle arm in arm as they used to. Margie is a very prominent certified public acc- ountant, and Katie was e court stenographer, but now is a good house- wife for that certain one. Betty Mitchell, who is a nursing Instructor in a big hospital in California has come back to North Carolina by special request to teach a course in Child Care. Among those taking the course there are four of her former class mates: Margie Dove, Dorothy Dove, Delores Boyd, and Lois Carter. These four are happily married and have homes of their 0111.
