. f.-,- .. A o t mee ,, Rlmthiyifegrre l l Parents and friends, tonight it is my privi- lege to speak the word which will bid you welcome here. You have demonstrated your interest in us by coming to spend this evening with us as we take a make-believe journey in the land of the fates, and as we advance toward the mill of happiness. We are preparing now to leave the protected life of school boys and girls, and launch out intai the complex life which many of you have faced far a number of years. Knowing of your interest in us we feel confident that you, with your wide exper- ience, will prove a guiding influence in this new 1if'3 0 In every tiny seed the eternal glory of crea- tiongin every blossom, the promise Qf a greater pos siblity,of which the fruit is the perfect fulfill- ment. Tonight,we theNClass of l959W are just push- ing out from the seed to grow upward in self- ex- pression of maturer life. Just as the living part of the seed is protected by the outer coating , so our lives have been sheltered and protected during our school days. Just as the nourishing soil, the warm sunshine, the soft breezes, and the refreshing rains have developed the hardy plant from the tiny seed,so has our high school education helped to a- waken our latent talents. we ask you now,to follow with us the will of the fates in whose hands lie the destines of all life. Tonight, the fates show us their power, as they weave all the threads of human life. Listen carefully as they weave, for only a rose and the charms of venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and am- bition dare to defy the Fates. Tonight, the Fates have decreed that we shall become as one of them. So,will you go with us as we pass onward on the trail that leads aright and promises so much for those who try. Ne hope 'e you will be as happy through this hour as we are to have you with us.

time e atom ,. , '-..' I As we,the.Soniors of '39,oome to the end of our school career,we stop a moment to ponder over these last few.short years which we have spent at Went-- worth High School. In l955,we entered the eighth grade with Mr.Joe Meador as home room teacher,as a group of forty- three young and ignorant boys and girls, Let us con- sider this period as the spring of our career, wh: is the time of all green and growing things. We did not realize then any morethan do the Freshmen of ta- day just how very green we weree We might sum it all up by saying of oursleves at that time: Cnee came forty and three babies Through OUT magic gates to pass, Scattering Ulf you pleased and Hmaybes - Werenlt they as green as grass? According to our calendar of school days,we be- gin our sophomore year with thirty-five pupils. So delightfully did the one season blend into the other that the Summertime of our high school career came upon us before we realized itn Things were easier for us this ycar, the skies seemed bluer and the sun seemed to shine brighterq We found that there were still a few things left for us to learn. Miss Melba Gaskins was our home room teachers Some of us regret ted leaving, since we had established ourselves in this graderwhile others looked ahead, longing for the new domain where the juniors ruled so royally. But alas,in achool life,as in nature,W Leaves have their time to fall, and flowers to wither N ,and the autumn of nur school days approached. This was the harvest of all our early planting- the reaping of the results of our dreams and efforts. This sea- son,we had the annual Junior-Senior Reception. This was a joyful occasion honoring the Seniors of '38.We chose WAunt Tillie Goes To Townu for the junior play But all was not glory and splendor.Thern were tests and examinations and hardships to endure. The number of travelers was reduced from last years to twenty- two. These were happy to think that at last , under the guidance of Mrs. Clarke, that they had become sen iors,
