l CLASS OF JANUARY OFFICERS X Ngtjirl- E5 LES 5 YL DEM x A NYS Q, BDA 915 HP' C Agtesident E326 Presxden PxD2'eCret0ItI GLEN 'ixeflffuiei CLASS HISTORY By Edward Arnold The reminiscent attitude of the Ianuary Class of 1941 can be understood only when one realizes that we have seen Wendell Phillips grow from a half day high school with an attendance of approx1mately eleven hundred students to an accredited school of nearly three times that attendance Our class was the first to enter under the new curriculum of Superintendent Iohnson and the last to be hampered by the 1nsuff1c1ent half day As 1S customary with Freshies we spent the major portion of our time trying to imitate an attitude of seniority Thus we did not really get into the swing of school activities until our sophomore year when we engaged in the Clean Up Campaign that resulted in Phillips being the recipient of the annual award. We fondly imagine we were most instrumental in this victory. Such talented students as Hudson Wadlington and Conrad Cochran were already beginning to make our class strong contenders for the outstanding class of Phillips. We wit- nessed the completion of the new auditorium gymnasium and cafeteria We also saw the advent of the annual basketball classic in our sophomore year Our Junior year found many members of the cla s receiving honor awards The officers in our junior year were Edward Arnold PIGSI dent and Clarence Hardin vice president In this year we were a more serious group than ever before and supported our school in every activity In the latter part of our Junior year we were among the students to welcome Mrs Bousfield as our new Principal In our senior year a sp1r1t of cooperation prevailed in the class Inspired by our 4B sponsor Mr Benson we attempted to set an example for the lower class students This was also the year we broke an established pre cedent by becoming the first class to take the Senior Prom to an outside ballroom. This was accomplished under the able leadership of our senior class officers: Charles Smith president' Eddie Myles vice-president' Addie Adams secretary' and Glendis Hambrick treasurer.
