dlass igtor As we prepare to don our caps and gowns, we look back into the face of our youth and recall the many treasured memories that it provided for us. We began our school years as frightened but anxious first graders under the leadership of Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Blalock. However, as we became acquainted with om classmates and began learning our ABC ' s, we lost this fear. How can we ever forget the wonderful days in Mrs. Ethel Todd ' s room when we would pop com! If we had been exceptionally good we were permitted to cook candy. Our fourth grade under the guidance of Mrs. Knott and Mrs. Floors was a difficult one, for this year we were introduced to the multiplication tables and geography. At the end of our stay in the eight grade; having finally acquired a knowledge of reading, writing, and arithme- tic; we were ready to graduate from grammar school and commence our work in high school. Our class was the first to have a formal graduation, and it was with trembling hands we accepted our diplomas from our principal, Mr. Grad, The next year, oiur green freshman year, we had to take a major step in preparing to face the future. We made a choice between a vocational and an academic ciuriculirm. The vocational curriculum offered agricultural, com- mercial, and home economic ' s courses, in addition to the basic courses in social studies, English, science, and math- ematics. The academic offered foreign language, advanced mathematics, and advanced sciences. This year we also became adjusted to changing classes and to high school activities. The day that we received our class rings will always be one of the great ones of our junior year. This year we used the money we made selling Christmas cards to finance the Junior-Senior Prom, Our theme, An Old Southern Planta- tion, was a beautiful one, and one on which we spent many hard but rewarding hours under the guidance of Mrs. Heath. Finally our long-awaited senior year arrived. To finance our year ' s activities we sold magazines. After many long hours of planning, selling advertisements, and typing; we mailed our annual to the Publishers. We were delighted over the success of our senior play; and the Juniors gave us a beautiful prom, for which we express our most sincere gratitude. Alas as we receive our diplomas, we are preparing to face the future and whatever it holds in store for us. Although we will soon part and go our separate ways, we will always cherish our days together at Wendell School. DEBBIE PHILLIPS Historian 12

I Colors BLUE AND WHITE JI[lo6i6r WHITE ROSE We are here to add to, not to get what we can from life. oem As our high school days hasten by, Many will shed a tear. We will think of the wonderful times That we have all shared here. We cherish each day with devotion As graduation draws nigh. For to our friends, teachers, and school. We must soon say good-bye. No matter what may happen. Where we go, or what we see. Though we search far and near. Here is where our hearts will be. As we put away childliood dreams. And schoolmates and friends depart; The memories made at Wendell High Will long remain in our hearts. So good-bye teachers and school. Thanks for patience and guidance so dear. Into another world we venture, Undaimted of all that may come near. cmg (Tune; YOU ' LL NEVER KNOW ) Everyone is sad and gloomy. And in each eye there sparkles a tear. No one seems to know what ' s happening. And golden mem ' ries now appear. You ' ll never know just how much we ' ll miss you. You ' ll never know dear ole Wendell High. From deep inside. It can ' t be denied. Wells love for you. We hate to go; For we know We ' ll miss you so. A million or more times. Now as we go, our thoughts are all of you. We remember lessons taught with care. We ' ll try to live day by day In such a useful way And show our gratitude; So that you ' ll know that we do love you. ILENE HORTON Song Writer MAXINE BROWN Poet 14
