MRS. CLEO PERRY Advisor JOE ANN TODD RANDY DRIVER Mascots History After twelve years of many struggles and hardships, we, the seniors of 1957, are ready to receive our diplomas. As I sit here, my mind wonders back over these past twelve years, and I remember many things. I remember the year 1945 when we started to school for the first time. My, we were really frightened. However, after eight years, we were proud to be called green freshmen of Wendell High. In our Sophomore year things were easier for us, for we had become adjusted to the many hardships of a high school student. By the time we became Juniors, we had many things to look forward to. We pre- sented our Junior Play which was entitled The Red-Headed Stepchild. We went to Williamsburg in November and had a wonderful time. Later in the year, we went to Milbrook for Career Day. Then in May we gave the Junior-Senior Banquet! ' for which we all had made many plans. Finally we became dignified seniors. This was the goal we had worked hard to reach. We received our class rings after several weeks of school and in November we journeyed over to Wakelon for College Day. In April we took a trip to Washington D, C. Climbing the Momument will always be a cherished memory. Now, as the time has come for each of us to journey down different roads, our hearts are sad. But we hope that in the future years each one of us will remember the other and think of the many, many good times we have had in Wendell School. MARY LOUISE PRIVETTE Historian Class Song As we turn this page in our book of life. Hearts glad, hearts sad. To this school, our classmates our teachers, too We bid a found adieu. As we look ahead in our future dreams To worlds unknown we ' ll strive As this chapter ends, and new begins Tho it ' s dusk, we await the dawn. HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL RULERS JAY LLOYD King ELDORA JONES Queen PROPHECY As I was adding the finishing touches to my latest painting, The Little Red School House, | was carried back in memory to my school days. I smiled as I thought of the changes time had wrought. Just the other day I read that Curtis Satterfield, C. W. Murray, and Fred Alford have opened the newest club in town, the Wendell Bachelor ' s Club. Their attendance is rather slack though. To everyone ' s surprise Edna Price just wouldn ' t let go of the wheel. She iswearinga navy blue uniform and steering the wheels of a Trailway bus. Jay Lloyd liked school so much he just couldn ' t stay away from it. He has taken the life-time job of janitor at Wendell High School. Joyce Cooke owns her own Pawn Shop in j Raleigh where she buys all of her cast-off jewelry from her cast-off boy friends. She likes to keep it in the family. Richard Liles is the youngest President the United States has ever had. But he could have never made it with - out his Campaign Manager, Sadie Faye Marshburn. Mrs. Donald Mooneyham and Mrs. Bobby Price are living in rose-covered cottages, keeping house for their loving husbands. These two are better known to us as Mary Jon Davis and Doris Johnson. James Flowers is owner of the Super Duper Fish Market in Rolesville. Wendell just doesn ' t have what Roles- ville has. Joy Scarboro is now a private secretary for the Vice-President of Wendell Ford Motor Co., who is none other than her husband, Jimtny Scarboro. J. H. Alp hinisthe prosperous owner of the Merry Dairy Farms, the largest in the South. He never could leave his cows for any length of time. Joanne Todd is Assistant Basketball Coach at Wake Forest College. She is the first girl to cap this title. Maharajah Baker, better known as Brodie, is now living in Arabia where it is legal to have a harem. He never could be satisfied with one girl, even while he was in high school. Rachel Marshbourne and Alice Faye Richardson have a dancing school in Raleigh. Alice is teaching bop and Rachel, the rumba. Cecil Horton is the new disc jockey on Cincinnati 1, Ohio. He plays his guitar or harmonica between com- mercials and a record once in a while. Margaret Sanders has just finished her latest movie. Beauty and the Mouse , co-starring her girlhood sweetheart Mickey Phillips . Both fit their parts perfectly, Curtis Phipps, nowa big oil man in Texas, owns about half of the U. S. Mint. He can now wear his ten gallon hat all the time without anyone making fun of it, Mary Lou Privette is the new head nurse at Rex Hospital. Being quiet does pay off in the long run. That new sensational comedy team, the Beano Sisters, has just signed a contract with Ed Sullivan for $100,000 per performance. Being witty and silly did get Luna Johnson and Janet Phipps somewhere didn ' t it? Shelby Jean Alford is now the head clerk at Hunter ' s 5 and lOc;: Store. It is rumored she will .soon be promoted to the vice-presidency, Eldora Jones has just finished her first book The Fickle Milkman. Wonder how she knows so much on this sub- ject Joyce Alford isa privatesecretary for Bobby Hull who is treasurer of E. R. Stykes Tobacco Co. Bobby couldn ' t have any pull could he? J. B. Wood is playing professional baseball for the New York Giants. They ' ve won the World Series annually since they signed him. Mrs. Oakie Yeargin and Mrs. Philip Johnson are better known to us as Jeanne Stokes and Myrna Alford. Lois and Marshall Raper are the prosperous owners of Lois ' Used Car Lot. Lois is President, Vice-President and Secretary while Marshall is the fix-it man. It even followed this pattern while in high school. I had better add the finishing touches to my painting in order to beat the deadline at the ArfGallery. Album of Memories Today we are seniors Standing on the threshold of life. Confident, prepared to face A new world of joy and strife. There ' s an open door before us, A gold light shines within. But before we face our future. Let ' s glance through our past again. Our picture album before us lies. Now finished; the last page filled. We ' ll wander back to the very first page. While time, for us, stands still. We glimpse huge halls then strange to us. Young footsteps hesitating on their way. Though our unknowing hearts first trembled. We gained sureness and wisdom day by day. We turn another page in time. Those same halls we see again. We were friends, no longer alone. Those halls for our home we claimed. Our pictures grow brighter with each year. We shared lots of work and fun. Together we stood and did our best; Together we lost and won. We close the book; our reverie ends. Sweet memories fade away. We have but one last picture to add — Our Graduation Day! Old days must die so new days can be born. We ' ll say goodbye, and half-sad, half-glad, walk on. Though we must bid thee a fond adieu, Wendell High, we ' ll remember you! LOIS RARER Class Poet AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS - 1 1 I 3: — • 0 I % I
