To Mr. Hall, our Principal, to Mrs. Perry, our loyal advisor and sponsor and to the faculty, we leave our gratitude and innermost appreciation for the many things they have done for our class of ' 55 and Wendell High School. We, Chesley Knott, Gilbert Wood, and Huey Allen leave our ability to play all sports to Carl Hull and Jimmy Hinnant. I, Faye Martin, leave my ability to go steady to Rebecca Byrd. I, Emily Dean, leave my ability to have a good time to Eddie Roberts. I, Dorothy Liles, will my love for talking in class to Miriam Starnes. I, Mary Alice Braudwell, leave David Braudwell to walk to school by himself. I, Bill Apple, leave the East end of Wendell to Lucrece Bilisoly. I, Douglas Raper, will my good looks and pretty smile to Daffy Gurley, not that he needs them. We, Hunter Ann Johnson and Marie Johnston, will our positions on the basketball team to Margaret Medlin and Julia Joseph. I, Betty Jean Richardson, will my private parking place at the Drive-In to Hazeline Lovelace. We, Donald Walston and Raymond Stott, leave our crazy remarks for Bill Upchurch and Bobby Price to use next year. We, Charles Medlin and Pauline Morgan, leave our pretty hair to Margie Bunn and Robert Price. I, Lloyd Sanderford, leave Dwight Sanderford to look after my girl. We, Glenn Frances Nowell and Ross Gay, leave our height to Ann Raybon and Grady Johnson. They do need it. I, Jean Snead, will a Bel-Air Chevrolet to Carole Martin. We, Sallie Joe Griffin and D. W. Byrd, will our style to Jeannette Hinnant, although she does not need it. I, Suzanne Cook, leave Jeanne Knott in charge of the school piano, since I cannot take it with me. I, Betty Jean Wall, will my curiousity to Susie Winstead. She has enough though. I, Charles Smith, leave my gracious profile to Shelton Raybon. I, Barbara Jean Martin, willingly leave my reducing formula to Charlie Holst and hope he has good luck, too. We, Wanda Anderson and Joyce Atkinson, leave our loud and boisterous ways to Rebecca Ann Alford and Mary Katherine Pittman. We, Linda Andrews and Patricia Richardson, leave our shyness to Nell Williams and Allen May. I, Carlton Privette, leave my temper to Jarvis Douglas. We, Larry Price and Milo Turnipseed, will our ways with the girls to Roger and Ralph Harris. Hope they make a good hit. Needing all of our possessions, we, Jane Johnson and Luther Ledford, gladly leave Wendell High School. It won ' t be the same though. I looked at their eager faces and wondered what their dreams of the future contained. I gues their dreams will change through the years, just as the dreams of my classmates had done. I almost laughed aloud think 1 ing how my classmates futures had changed from their dreams and ambitions. This is how they turned out .... You might know that Huey Allen, Gilbert Wood, and Chesley Knott would stay close togethef. They are now the owners of the swankiest pool parlor in New Orleans. Now living side by side are Mrs. D. V. Smith and Mrs. Donell Liggins. We knew them as Faye Martin and Jean Snead. Raymond Stott is now the professor of Public Speaking at Duke University. Every night he goes home to his little wife, who was none other than Mary Alice Braudwell. Dorothy Liles is now publishing a book entitled The Art of Writing Love Letters. Doug Raper and Larry Price are now instructors of a safe driving course. That ' s one I can ' t figure out. Suzanne Cook is playing for the Fred Waring Chorus. That is quite an advancement from the high school glee club. Speaking of music, Bill Apple has also gone quite far in this field. He is now director of Wake Forest College Band. Linda Andrews is now a private secretary for Lloyd Sanderford at Bryan Rock and Sand Co. The professor of Nuclear Engineering at State College is none other than Charles Medlin. Some of my students were brought into this world by Dr. Barbara Jean Martin, assisted by Pauline Morgan. Carlton Privette is now co-operator of Teen’s Dairy Bar. Betty Jean Wall and Jane Marie Johnson are now sisters -in- law. They always did like the same type of people. Milo Turnipseed is now owner of Tumipseed’s Feeds and Seeds.” Luther Ledford has come far since his first job with First Citizens Bank, for now he is the president. Joyce Atkinson is a model at Miller Rhodes in Richmond, Va. Mr. Boling has now given up his position as Ag. teacher at Wendell High to Ross Gay. Donald Walston and D. W. Byrd are now owners of the world-known cattle ranch, ”B W. Speaking of world-known” brings to my mind the author, LeDare Jameson, who could not be anyone else but Sallie Joe Griffin. Marie Johnston, a private secretary for Wenco, coaches the Wendell High Girls ' basketball team. Hear they are winning! Katherine Marks has just made another Broadway hit. By the way, she was Betty Jean Richardson. Just last week Patricia Richardson changed her name to Mrs. Russell Moss. Speaking of marriage, Hunter Ann Johnson is going to marry the principal of the high school where she is now teaching. If you happen to be in the market for a typewriter be sure to consider the newest model, Error- free, made by Charles Smith. On the sidewalks of gay Paree we see none other than our little artist, Glenn Frances Nowell, drawing and painting. As for me, Emily Dean, I am teaching at Merrytown. Wood Lee Wood Miss Fox Mr. Helmer The long-awaited night had arrived, the seniors of 1955 were taking their places on the stage. As I gazed out in the audience my mind began to wander back through the last twelve years. That big day twelve long years ago in September of 1943 when we entered the first grade as children, eager and ambitious to learn. Miss Jarvis and Miss Hurley helped us learn our ABC ' s. The next six years simply flew by and in the eighth grade when we began changing classes we were really proud. We entered high school the next year as green freshmen. We had quite a struggle that year, but Mrs. Johnston and Mr. Helmer helped us through. We studied and worked very hard and by the time we entered Mrs. Perry ' s room as juniors, we were ready to undertake anything. We were also ready to undertake the Junior-Senior Banquet. We went to Rolesville for Career Day, and later we presented a Junior play, A Little Clodhopper. At last that day we had waited for so long arrived. We became dignified seniors and we received our beloved class rings the second week of school. Our first big project as seniors was the Halloween Carnival in October. The juniors helped us with the Carnival. It was a big success. On November 19, 1954, we journeyed to Williamsburg, Virginia. The juniors accompanied us on this trip. Mrs. Perry and Miss Liles went with us, too. We learned much and had loads of fun on this trip. In April, 1955, we took an unforgettable sight-seeing trip to Washington, D.C. During the three-day tour we enjoyed such historical spots as the Washington Monument, Mount Vernon, and the White House. It was really a grand trip. The juniors put much hard work in the banquet they gave us, making it an occasion which we will never forget. Now we have come to the end of those twelve years and are ready to receive that reward for which we have worked so hard. Now we are ready to step out into another phase of life to begin working on other goals for which we will receive better and higher rewards. (2 Z44 Poe H The time has come too soon to part From all that we hold dear. Days to come will bring to us Our dreams of twelve long years. To our Alma Mater we give thanks, In our hearts she has a place. Memories of those who taught us. Sorrow or time can not erase. We say farewell to our classmates As we take the road of our aim, For there’s a place for each of us, And with hope we’ll always gain. ( 044 l Smcf To you dear school Our own dear school We lift our voices In tribute now. You’ve sheltered us And taught us well, You ' ve shown the way For us to go. We ' ll do our best To pass each test And bear our load as we go Down life’s road; Though we ' ll be gone From this day on, We’ll ever remember Our own dear school.
