' • Doris Jonas and Tommy Noblin It was the night of May 23, and the seniors of 1.952 were saying their final good-byes to Wendell High School. The speaker was saying, Sarah Jean Doan. As Sarah stepped forward to re- ceive her diploma, my mind wandered back to the long years of work wo had endured to attain our precious reward. It was twelve long years ago in 1939 when we entered the first grade as children, eager to learn. Miss Jarvis and Miss Hurley helped us over the hurdles that first year. The next six years passed swiftly, and the day we went into the eighth grade we wore really proud. We began having high school teachers that year. We entered high school the next year as green little freshmen who had quite a struggle with algebra. Mr. Murphy was our home- room teacher that year. We worked hard and by the time we entered Mrs. Perry 3 room as juniors, we were ready to undertake the Jun- ior Senior Banquet, We also went to Raleigh for Career Day, and later we presented a Junior play, Deacon Dubbs. At last came the day when we became dignified seniors and on the second day of school we received our beloved class rings. With our sponsor, Mrs. Boyette, we Journeyed to Williamsburg, Virginia, on November 30, 1951. At Williamsburg we increased our storehouse of knowledge and had loads of fun. In April, 1952 we took an unforgettable sight-seeing trip to Washington, D. C, The four days we stayed there were spent look- ing at the famous places we had read about in history books. We viewed the beautiful Luray Caverns in Virginia, when we stopped there on our way to Washington, The juniors put much hard work in the banquet they gave us, making it an occasion which wo will never forget. Yes, we have attained the reward which we have worked for so long, but as I heard my name being called I realized we were re- ceiving only one reward. Now we will go out in another phase of life to begin work on other goals for which we will receive better and higher rewards. ' ' : V ' X •) • ' ' ’ « i V ‘ •T .w .• ' ■ « i(f •: ' fX ' ‘ -j.. • 1 . M ' r.. . . ■; t ' .v “u ---VK .v VI ' i - ' ■.t • ; . Why hello Gosh it s been so long since I saw you last. Yes, time really flies. It certainly was a beautiful graduation exorcise, just makes me remember ours and our old classmates. Speaking of classmates, I just recently found out where everyone was. Can you imagine??????? Dorothy Hood and Okey Yeargin have a joint comedian hour on W. N. A. 0. every night called The Corn Hour — after all they were voted wittiest in the class. Curtis Lovelace, now an exhibition pool player, teaches the Arts of Pool to anyone who wishes to learn, I ' m afraid Bobby Cat Perry has run Arthur Murray out of business with bis many bop studios throughout the country. Ruby Doris Smith is now employed by the Bell Telephone Co. in Raleigh. She just had to work at the same place as that Ferrell boy. Norman Dean is quite a big man in the oil business — so bi in fact, he sports two Bulcks now. His best customers are Mr. and Mrs, Warren Allen— none other than Warren Allen and Merrilyn Baker. They cure all their tobacco with Dean ' s EZZO oil. Shirley Hlnnant is back at Wendell High, this time as a member of the faculty. She took over Miss Alderman ' s job as music teacher. We ' re really proud of four of the male members of the former senior class, they ' ve reached Hollywood. Bobby Underhill, Luther Gay and Dwight Horton are now better known as The Three Musketeers in Western movies. Tommy Noblln is now one of the more popular cinema lovers— he puts Valentino in the shade. Doris (Jones) Bruch is writing a book on American geography. She really collects the Information while following her husband (Duane) from port to port. Lewis Sanders is a big recording star. His latest hit is a reversion of I Ran All The Way Home entitled Aching Feet . Among our happily married couples are Carole Wootton, Mrs, Jimmy Greene,. Ann Dale, Mrs. Ivan Gay, who 1s also a New York model in her spare time, and Nona Dean, Mrs. Charles Perry, An up and rising Metro, opera star is o ir own Betsy Baugh, Some one said she was thinking about changing her name to Margaret —Let ' s hope NOTi Incidently, in some of the same performances you will see Patsy Wells, now a famed pianist. Barbara Martin now owns a chain of restaurants throughout N. C, They are known as Martin ' s Hash Houses, Gray Boyette now holds the position of head coach and professor at one of our more popular colleges — Can you imagine which one? Wake Forest, of course J Jimmy Lewis is now sole proprietor of the local Drive-Inn, He ' s famous for his hot dogs and jokes — the jokes are freej 1 Prances Johnson is now on the staff of a New York paper, writing the love-lorn column. She did have plenty of experience, Pat Grimes really surprised us all when she married a Congressman and became very active in the social world, Sybilene Blinson is now a school teacher and coaches the girls basketball team. Everyone knows her name because of her winning teams, Katrina Alford owns a beauty shop in Wendell and everyone raves about her beautiful hair styling. Mary Jon Gerald 1s a modern Portia. She really made a wonderful woman lawyer — with her curiosity how could she help but uncover all the evidence in a case. You better watch your parking meters in Raleigh now, because petroling the streets is Police-woman, Bobbie Jean May, She really looks nice in her nnif om. Dan Driver made a fine rural doctor. Young Doc Dan is well loved by all his patients. So you see all the Seniors of 52 have really made a place for themselves in the world. How could they help but do so because they were all such grand people. Who me? Well, I ' ll just leave that up to your imagination, and if by any chance you can ' t Imagine just look me up somettoes — I ' m still in Wendall, LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA COUNTY OP WAKE We, the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-Two, of the afore- said state and county, being of sound mind and in full possession of our faculties, but considering the early termination of our sojourn at Wendell High School and our subsequent departure from the hearths from which we came, and realizing that quizzes are now instruments of a by-gone age and that the ancient school bell no longer rings out a command to us, do make, declare, and publish this on the 23rd day of May, our last will and testament; all wills other than this to be null and void. To our Alma Mater we leave our hearts filled with affection and hopes for a better and more prosperous Wendell High in the years to come. To Mr. Boyette, our principal, to Mrs. Boyette, our loyal advisor and sponsor, and to the faculty we give in perpetuity our love and esteem and ever increasing respect in token for what, they have graciously done in helping us to arrive at this glad hour. To the Junior Class we leave our places in the class room, athletic field, musical organizations, and clubs in hopes that you will find as much enjoyment in these as we did. Shirley Hinnant wills her over-abundance of height to Harold Earp, for he is the shorty of the class. Warren Allen graciously leaves his school bus for Donnel Llgglns to drive next year. Noivnan Dean loaves his post as Co-Captain of the football team to James Nowell. Keep up the good work. Buddy, Doris Jones bequests her stylish ways to Jimmie Scarboro. Betsy Baugh sadly leaves Everette Ledford, Dan Driver leaves his ready smile and willingness to Billy Hobgood. Mary Jon Gerald leaves her good grades to Carl Phipps. Barbara Martin wills her ability to make at least twelve errors on a time test to Faye Painter, Pat Grimes leaves her quiet ways to Alma Lou Pierce, Does she need them? Jimmy Lewis wills his duty of supplying the girls with chewing gum in the Senior Class to Bobby Johnson. Keep them waxing. Bob. Nona Dean leaves her ability to get and keep a boy friend to Doris Wade. Tommy Noblin, with pleasure, leaves his acting ability to Margaret Johnson who really doesn ' t need it, Patsy Wells leaves her musical ability to Jean Richardson, Ruby Doris Smith leaves her love for popular music to Doan Starnes, None of that hillbilly stuff, Doan. Needing all his possessions. Gray Boyette, requests that the Bank of Wendell pay to Genevieve Anderson the total sum of one cent. TESTATORS POEM CLASSMATES EVER There ' ll he others we ' ll meet as we grow older. But no better friends than these. In later years some hearts grow colder. But we ' ll treasure high school memories. Here there Is no concealment We offer our outstretched hand; Here we give to you revealment Firmly, truly, do we stand. There ' s no wrong that needs correction. Classmates every one a friend. In the bonds of firm affection Bound together to the end. MOTTO: Let us strive to meet the test of true character what you would do If you knew you would never be found out. COLORS; Green and White FLOWER; Red Rose SONG LONG AGO VERSE — Study days are over, life ' s a four leaf clover, Joys of our high school days are through Every hope we longed for long ago — Just came true. Long ago and far away, we dreamed a dream one day. And now that dream Is here before us. Long the skies were overcast; but now exams have passed. It ' s here at last. Memories dear run through our minds As we leave old friends behind. That dream we dreamed was not denied us. Now with all our classmates near The dream we longed for long ago — Is here. uninrs Ellen Barnes Linford Blalock Mary Jo Buchanan Betty Byrd Gloria Cooke ( I Peggy Culp Harold Earp Shirley Harris Dot Herndon 14 Bobby Johnson Margaret Johnson 4 ' A .k.
