REMINISUENUF It seems but yesterday that Wenatchee Valley College was a small, struggling college trying to find its place among the educational institutions of the state. In I939 eighty-two students and seven teachers gathered in the rear wing of the high school to start a new iunior college. Two years later most of the men students went off to the war. Had it not been for a flight training program offered by the college, it probably would have closed its doors. But the small college was destined to grow and fulfill the dreams of those who envisioned it. During my time as Superintendent of Schools I have seen the college move to a new 50 acre campus, construct new modern buildings, and develop facilities to accommodate a stu- dent body of nearly I,5OO students. Its curriculum offerings have been extended to serve the varied interests of those who come in increasing numbers to the campus. Its excellent faculty of sixty-six teachers has been assembled to teach at the college. Through colloquia, music concerts, art exhibits, and guest speakers the college has generated a new cultural life for the community. Yes, Wenatchee Valley College has proudly taken its place among the rapidly growing number of community collleges in our state. It has been a great satisfaction to me to see this happen. I am pleased that I could have a small part in the development of this college.
