CHESS CLUB Glenn Struble, Bill Lathrop, Dave Iohn, Don Allyn, Gary Shill, Lawrence Allyn Ierry Nichols, Arlen Simms, Bill Milliken, Chuck 'Ward, l-laniord Choate The WIC Chess Club, dubbed Whiknis twhite knightsl, found its beginning in early February, l948, At that time WIC was blessed with an unusually strong crop oi chess players, including Bill Lathrop, Don Lumberg, Horner Vaughn, Carl Shantz, Don Allyn and Lawrence Allyn. Only halt of that strong six rnan team were back this year Q Bill Lathrop, Lawrence Allyn and Don Allyn. But new chess players have developed naturally, and chess is by no means on the decline at WIC. The principal objectives of the Whiknis are to secure competition for the members and to promote chess in and about WIC. To carry out these aims the chess club always keeps the lounge supplied with chessmen and always finds time to instruct those who wish to learn chess. The WIC Chess Club has found it difficult to arrange matches with other colleges, since there are few near at hand with chess clubs, The Whiknis are working on two correspondence games with Gonzaga University. A vis a vis match was also scheduled with Gonzaga for Feb- ruary l2, won by Wenatchee by default, Officers for the chess club are Bill Lathrop, president, Don Allyn, vice-president, Lawrence Allyn, secretary.
