After a winter's sleep under a blanket of snow the apple trees awake and soon burst into bloom as if touched by a magic Wand. The slopes of our valley are bathed in delicate pink and Spring is at her glorious best. Everyone is joyous at that season of the year in anticipation of the festival held to honor the blossoms. At no other time is the community so united as it is when preparing for the festival. Everyone is fired with the determination to make our festival the best in the world. lust as Spring brings with her a promise, so too do the Apple Blossoms bear a promise--fa promise of an abundant crop in the fall ea crop which is the mainstay of our valley. A., University of Washington We are observing this year the tenth anniversary of Wenatchee lunior College. We are indebted to those whose vision and foresight started the college and also to numerous other citizens who have actively supported it. its steady growth and its acceptance by students have definitely established it as an organized educational institution in North Cen- tral Washington. The reputation of a college is not determined by its size but rather by the extent to which it contributes to the needs of its students. lt is the desire of the faculty to help stu- dents gain the most from their lunior College experience. Students themselves have made a significant contribution through their spirit and de- termination to make Wenatchee lunior College a worthwhile institution. With this attitude on the part of the faculty and students continued progress is assured. l consider it a privilege to be associated with a junior college that offers so much promise for future growth and development as does Wenatchee lunior College. New buildings and facilities are now being planned for the college and it is hoped that they will be a reality in the near future. The next ten years should witness great developments. l am sure that the college life portrayed this year will recall, in years to come, enjoyable and worthwhile days spent in Wenatchee lunior College. My best wishes are extended to every student who has attended the college this year. Paul F. Furgeson, President of Wenatchee lunior College. l-lelen Van Tassell Dean B.S., MA., University of California Wenatchee Iunior College is proud of the advances made in this the tenth year since its founding. Although the long dreamed of college campus has not yet materialized, con- struction within the college-high school building has given us improved college facilities. A sign over the King Street entrance to the building designates the college Wing. An of- fice suite including a general office, quarters for the publications staffs of the Knight Edi- tion and Weiuco, as Well as an office for the dean and a faculty conference room give both students and faculty a work center. The new biological laboratory and radio studio have made possible an expansion of the curriculum to include additional courses in nursing science and in speech. On the activity side of college life advance has been made also. Besides the usual participation in football, basketball, and skiing we have this year entered competition in tennis, track, debate, and the state junior college music festival. Several new clubs have been formed. Social life has included after-the-game dances in the lounge, several semi- formal and one formal dance, a carnival, as well as sleigh rides, skating parties and picnics. We believe that the year past has been a good year in Wenatchee lunior College and We look forward to further improvement in the college facilities and subject offerings so that this institution may ever better and better serve the needs of North Central Washington. This organization, whose aim is to provide all the women with participation in the college activities and insure interest in the social as well as the academic side of education, has done a good job in upholding its goal. Active in the affairs of the student body, the A.W.S. have sponsored, this year, an Alumni Tea, King of Hearts Tolo, Mothers Tea, a dance reception after the Drama Fes- tival, and various other dances. PEP CLUB The object of the Pep Club is to promote college entertainment and school spirit, and it has upheld its aim nicely. Upon the resignation of President Gary Adams, Vice-president Dave lohn took the reins and with efficient leadership held the club together to promote en- thusiasm among the students. The Sock l-lop, an early-fall dance, was followed by a coast- ing party and later a skating party. A hayriole and Weiner roast, and various other skating and dancing parties Wound up the social side of the Pep Club activities, although numerous school services were performed. Decorating for Home-Coming, furnishing shaker sticks, the Football Banquet, and the lunior College float are some of those activities. Pep Club does not boast an enormous treasury, states Dave lohn, but we like to see l. C. students have a good time. The Roundtablers, as the club is commonly known, is an honor society with member- ship limited to those students capable ot maintaining at least a 2.5 grade average. The pur- pose of the club is to foster better social, academic, and activity programs here at the col- lege, and to advertise W.l.C. throughout North Central Washington. Throughout the past year the Roundtablers have striven to uphold the scholastic and social ideals which make tor good school citizenship. Their activities include athletic season ticket sales, poster publicity campaigns, dances, and informal mixers which class the Knights ot the Roundtable as one of the most enthusiastic and school spirited clubs at W.l.C. The Wenatchee Chapter of Delta Psi Omega has always been active in the field of drama, giving Wenatchee lunior College many fine productions. When the Traveling Chil- dren's Theater went on the road two years ago, it gave W.I.C. the only traveling collegiate childrens theater west ot Denverfa distinction that has held until this year. The childrenfs theater, known as the Wenatchee Collegiate Troupers, is only one ot Delta Psi Omega's activities, however. For the past three years the organization has sponsored the North Cen tral Washington Drama Festival, giving high school drama students an opportunity to have their work evaluated by expert critics. ln addition to these projects, Delta Psi Omega also sponsors several all-college plays during the year, making the drama department ot Wenatchee lunior College one ot the finest and most active in the junior colleges in the state. Organization was only to the planning stage when the end ot the school year carne, halting progress till this year. The project was started again with renewed vigor last fall and plans were pushed to the completion stage. The Lettermerfs Club roll call now boasts twenty-eight rnernbers. SKI CLUB Some oi the trophies Won by the individual ski team members and the ski team as a Whole. Only halt of that strong six rnan team were back this year Q Bill Lathrop, Lawrence Allyn and Don Allyn. But new chess players have developed naturally, and chess is by no means on the decline at WIC. The principal objectives of the Whiknis are to secure competition for the members and to promote chess in and about WIC. To carry out these aims the chess club always keeps the lounge supplied with chessmen and always finds time to instruct those who wish to learn chess. The WIC Chess Club has found it difficult to arrange matches with other colleges, since there are few near at hand with chess clubs, The Whiknis are working on two correspondence games with Gonzaga University. A vis a vis match was also scheduled with Gonzaga for Feb- ruary l2, won by Wenatchee by default, Officers for the chess club are Bill Lathrop, president, Don Allyn, vice-president, Lawrence Allyn, secretary.
