able hai FAMILY PORTR AIT BAMATIC artistry was achieved in the presentation of Family Por- trait, the rarely illuminating drama produced during Holy Week by Miss Lillian Grace Brown and her dramatic students in the High School and the Iunior College. Convincing and beautiful, it unfolded the story of a mothers steadfast loyalty to her son in the face of blind and bitter opposition from his family and countryn' 2n. It was doubly significant that the Mother was Mary, and the Son, lesus. Marylyle Cunningham, appearing again this year in the role of Mary, gave a strong and moving performance. fn the scene above, she welcomes lesus home after His absence. Other principals shown are Larry Smith, lohn Dearinger, Marilyn Garrett, Charles Bailey, Lois Smith, Bodney Beeder, Betty Ann Paton. The Mikado, brilliant and lavishly costumed comic operetta presented in No- vember, drew capacity houses at both performances. Mr. George Low directed his music students in this delightful singing story of the Emperors son disguised as a minstrel and wooing the beautiful Yum Yum. Tuneful solos and choruses, exquisite costumes, expressive dramatic action --e- frnelody, color, sparkle-!'The Mikado had them all. The effective make-up and drama were due to Miss Lillian Grace Brown, and the charming background scene was the work of the art department under the direction of Mrs. Fern C. Duncan. Principals in the scene at the left are Helen Tresedder, Charles Bailey, Lily fo Hammans, Lynn Heminger, Faye Hamilton, Bar- bara Gwinn, Iack Phipps, and Gaye Wilson.
