J APPLE LEAF Ye olde Apple Leaf almost succumbed at the beginning of the school year because of an acute attack of inflationary prices. But the money transfusions made possible by heroic students, and the changing of printers saved the paper from the ignominy of being a mere mimeographed form. Special recog- nition goes to the first semester business staff composed of the following people: Glenn Lindell, Marjorie Hamilton, and Noreen Doneen. lt Was their resource- fulness that secured lower printing prices, and their ingenuity that prompted all kinds of money raising schemes to bring the paper out of the red and to make it a paying proposition. lk, Now, Without pecuniary Worries, Betty Ann Maloney, the capable editor, and Miss Helen Orton, the new advisor, were able to publish a bi-monthly paper. Miss Maloney Was succeeded by the very efficient Nancy De Puy, who served as second semester editor. Every one of the students wishes to express his appreciation to Miss Orton, the two student editors, the Apple Leaf editorial and business staffs for making possible a paper of outstanding merit. The varied program included football, basketball, track, tennis, base- ball, bowling, swimming, and special classes in safety driving for good meas- ure. Sponsored by the Lions' Club who recognized the dire need for more cautious drivers, the training was made possible when a safety training car with dual controls was provided by Wells and Welty. Undoubtedly this train- ing in all physical educationsclasses makes highways of Wenatchee a much 'ra safer place to drive. Some outstanding records were made by the '46 and '47 teams. ln track, Carl Brenner broke a 20-year record for the 220-yard dash, and Lee Cave holds. the record for the halt mile. ln the class of '47,' Pete Young, and Don Hedley hold records tor the hi h and w hur , respectively.
