Sports 32 FOOTBALL SEASON The Wenatchee Purple Panthers were taken un theur furst two games and tued theur thurd The fourth game proved to he defeat agaun but the boys hegan to move together and they were out for hattle They walked all over Cashmere the funal score he ung 26 7 Not satusfued wuth thus score they went to Ellenshurg and brought home a vuctory of 260 In these vustoruous games the Panthers showed un usual power and deceptuon hutherto not shown Wenatchee Hugh s hopes ran hugh but the boys were defeated by Whatcomb The game was one of the best hugh school games ever played Both teams fought hard and the funal score was 12 6 Musfortune and unexperuence was a jtnx e team at the furst of the season but under the durec tuon and encouragement of the coach P K Benja mun the hoys came through wuth flyung colors BASKETBA1 I B SQUAD The B squad composed enturely of Sophomores followed rught un the footsteps of the furst team wun nung nune out of ten games They were defeated the furst game of the season hy the Dauly World quuntet 816 However later un the season the B squad came hack to trounce the Dauly World boys twuce 15 10 and 2120 Thu members of the B squad are as follows Black Russ Flynn Oshorne Foster Muller and Gruhh Wuth these fellows to full the shoes of the gradu 'utung senuors the prospects for another basketball 'IASKETBAI L A SQUAD Durung the 32 33 basketball season the Wenat chee Panthers carrued on an unusually successfu campaugn wmnung fourteen out of fufteen games and walkung away usuth the county tutle Led by Bertheau lanky center the boys tallue 529 pounts to theur opponents 287 They met theur only defeat of the eason at the hands of Ellenshurg to the tune of 28 26 The hugh spot of the season un th ulls was th furst Cashmere Wenatchee tangle un wh ch th Panthe s were able to eke out a 21 19 wun only after an overtume peruod In th annual county tournament Wenatchee de feated Cashm re Chelan and Sunnyslope wuth com paratuve ease to wun the county tutle and the Dauly World Trophy P K Benjamun versatule Panther coach consude thus outfut the best un hus seven year career at W I-'I S and durmg hus sujourn un the Panther camp Benny has turned out s me furst ra e teams The followung men were awarded the offucual XV B rtheau cap aun Murubellu captaun ele t Nelson Jensen Brawley Caldwell Co hun and Baylus GIRL ATHLETICS Sunce the gurls were depruved of the unterscholas tuc basketball thus wunter the women coaches of the dufferent schools of Chelan County worked out a pount system whuch would permut every gurl to partucu pate un the dufferent sports and all have an equal chance Awards would he guven to those gurls who had earned the requured number of pounts The awards are 200 pounts 3 unch Gold W 750 pounts 6 unch Gold W County award to the gurl earnung the hughest number of pounts un the county Thus wunter many of the gurls have taken thus op portunuty un earnung pounts by playung untramural hasketbuul There has been much enthusuasm durmg the days of the wunter months Every mght after school there were from fufteen to twenty fuve gurls out on the floor full of pep and eager to keep them selves un health as well as earn pounts Dururug the fall months many of the gurls enjoyed playung volley ball Almost every evenung one would fund the gurls out on the floor laughung and shout ung enjoyung thus game to the fullest extent and de velopung abuluty and good sportsmanshup Last fall and thus sprung several gurls seemed to fund tume to do a luttle hukung Every Wednesday they would huke two or three mules unto the country to return home wuth some new experuence and prob ably to fund that theur hug toes had found a way rught thru a brand new paur of shoes Now to speak of the one person who was hehund all thus Muss Georgua Butler was the one who guuded them on all of theur trups the one who was fauthfully at the gym every nught to coach the gurls un basket hall and volleyball She us well luked and respected by all the gurls and much credut us due her for 1 successful athletuc year The rollowung gurls receuvcd thuer furst award of 1 3 unch Gold W Beulah Cummuns Margaret Sny der Helen Goughler Eduth Crutcher Florence Pur don Vera Chandler Phyllus Sonney Mary Gussman Bernuce Sumons Margorue Reud Martha Gussman Eduthj Forduson Dorus Stuart Lurlune Coamhs Bar hara Clement NIa'tune Peters and Kay Fray Lufe Savung TENNIS Th 1932 Tenn s Team had a short hut successful s ason last sprung wunnung two matches from Entuat and one from Ephrata The team was made up of the fuve fellows who placed hughest un the annual all school tournament wh ch was won by Ralph Shotwell Munor letters were awarded to the follomng team membe s Shotwell Taylor Bungham Schullander and Wood Th s drunk us on me crued Bob Wetherald as he sp lled the near beer on hu shur v rr - rv , . - 1 , .
