O I he em When we unsuspecting seniors joined the Tiger Tales Staff we had absolutely no idea of the hours of work, and worriesg not to forget the fun, the yearbook would give us. We started our work by getting subscriptions from the students and selling advertise- ments to the Wellsville merchants. Then we planned our dummy yearbook. Now the work really started. We took pictures, made out copy sheets, rushed Mr. Horsley, wrote and typed copy, cropped pictures, worried Mr. Wilfing, and made mad rushes to make deadlines. But now the yearbook is completed. The rush, the worry, and the work are over and only the pride and joy of what we hope is a masterpiece is left. Tomorrow or years from now, our work will bring back to us all those near-forgotten, precious moments of a golden year of high school. Each and every member of the Tiger Talesn Executives and Staff would like to express our appreciation for the expert help and guidance given us by our sponsor, lVlr. Charles Wilfing. They check books and magazines in and out of the library. ln addition to this, they keep the books neatly arranged on the library shelves and keep the card catalogues orderly. Also, if anyone desires to find some infor- mation on a certain subject, he may rely upon the services of one of the student librarians. As a reward for their Work, the librarians are given pins at the end of the year. There are gold pins for three years' service, silver pins for two years' service, and bronze pins for one years' service. At Christmas the li- brarians and Mrs. Welch have a gift exchange. It is to be hoped that some of the librarians will continue in their work by entering into the broad field of library science. The biggest help to our teachers are the student secretaries. These Commercial students are real helping hands. Their duties comprise typing work sheets, tests, grade sheets, organi- zational letters, and mimeographing for a spe- cific teacher. The secretaries, work is gratefully accepted and sometimes rewarded by the teachers. 6 FIRST ROW: Lou Ann Betteridge, Judy Johnson, Kay Tice, Joyce Johnson, Sheila Beohm, Mr. Polesky, Janet Fitzsimmons, Carol Jackson, Sally Stone, Pat Morrell, Theresa Comparetto, Linda Mclntosh. Z I The Future Teachers of America is the organiza- tion that enables students to find out whether they have the qualifications needed in the teaching pro- fession. They get actual teaching experience by substituting for regular teachers who are absent. In this way the students can earn points for a pin at the end of the year. Three other ways they can earn points are by bringing in tax stamps, by working at the Future Teachers stand in the main hall or by working on the F.T.A. handbook. At Christmas time the club had a banquet at Meade's Restaurant at which former club mem- bers, who are now freshmen at various colleges, were present. They told about life at their colleges. In the spring the club will have a banquet and new officers will be installed. A flower-covered heart and two card- board figures of Cupid formed the entrance. The colors, red and white, were used to portray the theme 6'And Cupid Shot His Arrow. Spotlights illuminated the large flower-covered heart at the far end of the gym. Charles Sanfilippo and his Or- chestra from Rochester provided the music for the dance from 8:30 to 11:30 P.lVI. The high point of the evening was the grand march which was led by the Y-Teen President, Shirley lVlcDevitt, and her escort, Ron Kampfer. The dance, which was decorated by a committee headed by co-chairmen Paula Ross and Sondra Barnes, was one of the prettiest dances of the year. The punch bowl I 795X.., ' daniel This year's Tiger football team, under their second new coach in two years, Ken Woods, finished the season with a 2-won, 6-loss, and 1-tied record. This was obviously a rebuilding year for Wellsville. This year the Tigers again dropped their first two games. The first to a very strong Austintown Fitch team, 60 to 14, and the second to Toronto, 26 to 12. Against a very weak Chester squad, the Tigers got bad breaks and had to be content with a 6 to 6 tie. The Tigers then won their first game of the year and avenged a 61 to 3 setback of last year by beating Bellaire St. John, 6 to 0. Cadiz then got even for last year's upset by edging the fighting Tigers 18 to 141. Wellsville played hard but Salem racked up a 13 to 8 margin of victory at Salem. The next week, in what was perhaps the Tiger's best game of the year, they overcame a 12 to 0 half- time lead to beat Jefferson Union l8 to 12. Again repeating history, the Tigers dropped their last two games, one to Mingo, 34 to 3, and one to Lisbon, 36 to 0. Although we had a losing season. there was a noticeable pick-up in school spirit, and the boys were in there hustling all the way. We Wekomea 7Zew Ken Woods, our new coach, came to Wellsville from Fairfield-Waterford, where he coached for three years. He also coached one year at New Haven. This season also saw senior All-Ohio candidate, Dan Baldwin, break the 1,000 mark for his high school career. He also led the district in scoring with a better than twenty point per game average. The Bengals dropped a close first game to a tough Midland five. They then won two, beating Newell and edging Lisbon. After outplaying East Liverpool for three periods. the Orange and Black dropped a thriller. The next game saw Wellsville defeat Mingo. The Bengals then dropped two, one to Toronto and one to Steubenville Central. Having better luck, they then beat Chester and stomped Newell. The Salem Quakers, ranked fifth in the state, handed Wellsville their worst defeat of the season. Playing tremendous ball, the Bengals then proceeded to win five in a row de- feating Steubenville Central, Mingo, Chester, Goshen Union, and Beaver Local. Facing a good Toronto five for the second time, the Orange and Black played a fine game to win easily. The Bengals' six- game winning streak was then ended in the closest game of the year by WCi1't0I1 Madonna. Hg X Ra -, .5 ,, , ,Q ga.
