CLASS HISTORY ln September of 1953 T50 students entered Wellsvulle Hugh School as members of the freshman class The class was made up of students from the MacDonald parochual and rural grade schools Oruentatuon week our furst week of school was spent arrangung our schedules and gettung acquaun ted wuth teachers and fellow students The furst elec tuons were those for choosung Student Councul mem bers Soon the other clubs un the school held theur membershup druves and chose offucers Thus was the year that our band made hustory by earnung a sup eruor ratung at the dustruct contest enableung them to go on to Columbus for the state funals Thus was a so the year the basketball team advanced to the dustruct tournament for the second straught year The sophomore year found the students busy lounung clubs and supportung school actuvutues The boys went out for sports and the gurls uouned such organuzatuons as the Y Teens and Future Homemakers of Ameruca All of us recall Sulas Marner as a mem orable part of our Englush luterature that year Out standung un the fueld of sports were .lon Kuggans The lunuor year was umportant because ut was the furst tume the class elected offucers The offucers selected were Ron Presuttu presudent Joy Shunn vuce presudent Carmen Wrught secretary and Earl Campbell treasurer Under the guudance of Muss DeLopez our class sponsor the furst money makung prolect was the sellung of refreshments at the regular basketbal games and also at the concessuon stand for the Sectuonal Tournament whuch was held at our gynasuum The second prouect was a bake sale ut too was successful The money from these pro uects was spent on the Junuor Senuor Prom The theme of the dance was an Evenung un Parus whuch was a huge success The clumax of the dance was the crownung of the Prom Kung Ray Rolley and the Prom Queen Donna Buzzard Durung the course of all these actuvutues came our bug Englush research themes whuch took up much of our tume For the thurd straught year the band earned the rught to go to Columbus They not only got a superuor ratung at the dustruct contest but at the state funals receuved the Ohuo Musuc Assocuatuons plaque for superuor abuluty In the fueld of scholarshup twelve uunuors were unutuated unto the Natuonal Honor Socuety The arruval of our long awauted class rungs ended our uunuor year of hugh school At last the class became SENIORSl It was the senuor boys who played sports ut was the senuors who eduted the annual ut was the senuors who were admured by the underclassmen Mr Polesky took the uob of sponsorung the senuor class and Mr Wul fung of sponsorung the Tugar Tales Agaun class of fucers were chosen wuth Ray Rolley beung elected presudent Joe Commarata vuce presudent Donna Buzzard secretary and Carmen Wrught treasurer In addutuon a Senuor Executuve Commutte was chosen to aud un solvung duffucult problems and uncluded besides the class offucers Jon Kuggans Jack .lobe Ron Presuttu Wayne Kerns Wade Backus and Bull Cornwell ln order to complete the fullung of umpor tant offucers ballotung was held to select the annual offucers Those elected were Charles Sayre Edutor un Chuef Jack Wellungton Assocuate Edutor Regus Smuth Busuness Manager The class worked hard earnung money and was partuculary successful wuth at mudyear Although the football team s record was not outstandung ut was an umprovement over the pre vuous years record One of the hughlughts of the season was the crownung of the Homecomung Queen Ann Rahter who was chosen by the enture student body The basketball team had uts best season sunce our freshmen year Our Englush luterature wull be remembered because of Macbeth and hus under takungs The hugh pount un our Amerucan problems class was the day the senuors ran the cuty from street sweeper to the mayors office The class play Harvey proved to be another hughlught of our last school year lt was durected by Mrs Welch and Mrs Runyon The Natuonal Honor Socuety agaun unducted new members Our senuor year was con cluded by the Senuor Banquet Class Day Baccalaur eate and at last on the twentueth day of May the year 1957 the Beacom Memorual Gymnasuum rang to the processuonal and each member of the class who had successfully completed a four year course at Wellsvulle Hugh School receuved a duploma The class of 1957 was prepared to take uts place as a part of the adult world , .
