CLASS HISTORY In September of 'I952 'I80 students entered Wellsvulle Hugh School as members of the Freshman Class The class was made up of students from the MacDonald parochual and rural schools The furst week of school was spent fundung classrooms and gettung schedules straughtened out Decusuons had to be made as to whuch courses were to be taken C lege Preparatory Commercual General and Indus trual Arts were the courses offered It dud not take the new students long to get acquaunted Student Councul electuons were held and club membershup druves began Thus was the year the basketball team went to the Dustruct Funals at St Claursvul e wuthout the and of Bevo Francus who left the year before It was also the year Mr Yelland and the Thespuans presented hus orugunal productuon of Out of Thus World The Sophomore year found the students busy lounung clubs and supportung school actuvutues The boys went out for sports and the gurls louned such organuzatuons as Y Teens and Future Homemakers of Ameruca The class members who showed promuse and Jack Call The Varsuty Basketball team contun ued uts fune record by once agaun goung to the dus tuu t tournament The Wellsvulle Hugh School Band also made school hustory by goung to the state contest un Columbus for the furst tume The .lunuor year was Important because ut was the furst tume the cass eected offucers Under the duuectuon of Muss DeLopez cass sponsor the class selected the fo'lowung Pete Peters Presudent Bll Hamulton Vuce Presudent Donna Santumaruno Secre tary and Rosalue Fusco Treasurer The furst prolect attempted was a candy sale whuch proved to be successful The basketball concessuon stand another Junuor Cass prolect Introduced the sellung of puzza at the games for the furst tume A thurd class prouect was a bake sale The money made from these prolects was spent on the Junuor Senuor Prom The theme of the dance was Neptunes Court and the Prom Kung and Queen were Arthur Householder and Lunda Provost In the muddle of all these actuvutues came a bug Englush research theme whuch took up much tume Nothung extraordunary happened un the lune of sports thus year but the band once agaun went to Columbus In the fueld of scholarshup thur teen lunuors were unutuated unto the Natuonal Honor Socuety The arruval of class rungs was also a hugh lught of the Junuor year Suddenly the class became Senuors It was the Senuor boys who played the varsuty sports It was the Senuor classmates who eduted the annual It was the Senuors who were admured by the underclassmen Mr Polesky took the bug 'ob of sponsorung both the Senuor Class and the annual Class offucers and annual executuves were elected and the Senuor Class of 1956 began to functuon The largest money makung prolect was once agaun sellung candy The football concessuon stand also brought un much mon ey Although neuther the football nor basketball team had an outstandung season many Senuor boys made names for themselves on the fueld and court Outstandung un scho arshup was Muchael McDowell who p aced un the upper ten per cent of the state un the General Scholarshup Tests for Hugh School Sen uors One of the hugh pounts of the year was the class play Tume Out For Gunger whuch was durect ed by Mrs Welch and Mrs Runyon The Junuor S nuor Prom sponsored by the Junuor Class was a beautuful dance un a settung of Aprul In Parus The year was concluded by the Senuor Banquet Class Day Bacca aureate and Commencement The grad catuon exercuses were held on the 2'lst of May un the Beacom M mo ual Gymrasuum and a duploma was receuved by each senuor who had successfully completed a four year cours at We lsvulle Hugh School , .
