THE BAND HE ORANGE and BLACK marching band of W. H. S. was active throughout the school year. They started with the Youngstown North game in September and played at every football game at home and away. After football season, the fight songs and snappy marches were put away for the more refined concert overtures and waltzes. The pre- holiday season was climaxed by a Christmas concert by the band and Glee Club. The spring concert music was practiced each day during the cold winter months and the band again proved a success at the concert and at graduation. The marching band will lose all its majorettes except Verna Erwin. Graduating majorettes are: Bobbie King, Virginia Monte, Sugar TetTt and Don Ilawksworth, drum major. llowever, members of the sophomore and junior classes will capably fill their positions. Mr. Mason is to be commended for his fine job as director. We are proud of that band that represents Wellsville High School. 26 TIGER TALES '46 CLUB Third Row. left to rightil Reed. J. Kennedy. G. Piatt, Johnson, Not in picture-Donaldson. McNic-ol. IIE intramural season in W. H. S. was a great success this year. The games got an early start with action commen- cing during the first week of January and continuing throughout the month of Febru- ary. There were two games a day in each of the cross-courts of the gym. The Games started at 12:05 each noon and continued for thirty-two minutes with a minute be- tween each quarter. The eleven teams battled it out in the Round-Robin tournament, each team striv- ing for the best percentage. At the end of the tournament, three teams came out on top with an SW, average. This was eight victories against two losses. Syracuse, Cor- nell. and Lf C. L. A. were put into the play otts. L1 C. L. Afs coach Jim Thrasher, drew a bye. This put Syracuse against Cornell in the semi-finals. Excitement grew to a high pitch as each member of the student body cheered for his favorite team. The Semi-Finals ended with a hard-earned 20-19 victory for Syracuse. The Bisons had also defeated Cornell 33-32 during the tourna- ment schedule. The big day arrived on Friday. February 15th. The gym was packed with students anxious to see who would be the champs of W. H. S. It was Syracuse against U. C. L. A. The game was all U. C. L. A. in the first quarter and it ended 11-2 with the Bruins out in front. However, in the second quarter the orange and blue caught fire and the game tied at 16-16 at half-time. The second half was all Syracuse and the Bisons coasted to an easy 37-21 victory over C. C. L. A., and copped the championship of XV. II. S. The Syracuse team was composed of Piatt, leading scorer, and Fiber, Everhart, Donaldson, Johnson and McNichol. The intramurals this year aroused more interest among the students. and nearly every boy of the high school and a team from the Junior High participated. Orchids to you. Mr. Menough and Coach Ingalls. You really did a great job with the 1945-46 intramurals.
