They beat Gardner with everything but the football and the referees. They ran over a touchdown every two minutes in the last quarter and came out victorious by a tremendous score of 65 to O. They ended up their season with eight victories and one defeat, and had second place in the Little Seven League. It was a great team despite their one defeatg probably the greatest of all teams as far as teamwork and clean play was regarded. BASKETBALL Wellsville had a colorful season in basketball, as in football. They were fast, accurate, and great defensively. They downed most of their opponents by wide margins and lost only one game in season com- petition. The only game lost was the first one, to the Olathe School for the Deaf. They were beaten 43 to 25 at Olathe. In the second game, however, they showed new life and tromped Louisburg 37 to 25. From there on out it was the same story every game. Several times they re- ceived close competition but always they came out on top in the end. They won twelve straight games and then were set for the play-off with Spring Hill, the winners of the Eastern Division of the League. Here they met the best team they had met all season and an extremely close game took place. First the Eagles were ahead and then Spring Hill was ahead. They battled all the way and finally won 24 to 22. This gave them the title to the entire League Championship. Their final games were played in the District Tournament at Baldwin. They drew a bye on the first night and did not play The second night of the tournament they met Pomona, a strong team They outplayed Pomona and led all the way to win 35 to 26 The second game, they went up against University High of Lawrence The University team had far too much heighth for the local boys, and although they played a good game they went down 33 to 27 In the last game, they played Appanoose in the consolations for third place Appanoose had a good team and was slightly favored over the Eagles The home team went on, however, and won by a wide game for three quarters This sented with a trophy They course, for winning the Little out to play their best game of the seas margin of 34 to 22 after playing a close gave them third place and they were pre received their first place trophy, of Seven League.
