Happiness is competition. Competition is the basis of all team sports. A team cannot perform at its best without each member realizing that he is a part of a unit and that he has a responsibility to the others to do his utmost. Unity is also the feeling of dependence of one member upon another. Each person knows that without the aid of his teammates he could accomplish very little. Competition gives the team the spirit to excel. Happiness is success, the success of each student as he walks from these sacred halls for the last time prepared to bravely face a bold new world and the challenges of attaining his goals. It is the success of anticipating a rewarding and fulfilling life which lies ahead. 19

Hoff) (MU % . . . Happiness is spirit. The spirit on which activities depend. It must be the spirit of everyone, both students and teachers. This spirit must come freely from the heart, and must be expressed in the cheerful giving of one’s time and energy to an endeavor. An individual with spirit, who gives of himself unselfishly to activities, not only benefits those around him, but even more important, enriches his own life. Happiness is striving. The striving of each student to acquire knowledge and to develop talents and character. It is the striving to do one’s best at all times and never to accept failure as being final. It is the striving to broaden one’s life as much as possible through the experiences which school offers. And perhaps most important of all, it is the striving on the part of each student to be fully prepared for the future which lies ahead. 18
