RAY Editor Co-editor Wellston High School Wellston, Ohio Peggy Walker Becky McCorkle Fable of Contents Introduction 1 Student Life 5 Graduates 43 Sports 69 Underclassmen 89 Curriculum 103 Junior High 113 Advertisements 125 Foreword When thinking of school, one so many times finds himself with a mental picture of a sprawling brick structure glistening in the sunlight. VV.1I.S. is this indeed, but is is also much more than a mere structure. It is the essence of life itself— life that resounds from the quietest corner of the classroom to the lofty pinnacle of the goal post. It is the life of the studenf, the teacher, the athlete, and the musician. It surges from under the doors, and loudly echoes through the halls. As a deluge.it sweeps throughout the entire inanimate building, illuminating the structure with that vital spark that enables us to recognize it as a “school”. It is then this school life that is so important to each and every student and it is this that we have tried to capture in the pages of this book. The 1969 X-Ray has been planned to serve as an everlasting memory of the many activities that occurred during the passage of one year at W.H.S. Activities are the heart of a successful and enjoyable school year and they always provide a host of opportunities to supplement a student’s education. Through a pictorial and verbal record we have tried to capture these activities, both educational and recreational, so that they will live in the hearts and minds of those who experienced them for many years to come. 3 Mrs. Carolyn B. Townsend Mrs. Anna Mae Bellomy In Memoriam During the 1968-69 school term the Wellston School System was saddened by the loss of two highly esteemed teachers, Mrs. Carolyn B. Townsend and Mrs. Anna Mae Bellomy. Their deaths occurred within less than four months apart. Mrs. Townsend taught in the Wellston School System for twenty-three years. Mrs. Bellomy taught for thirty years. The administration, faculty, and student body mourn the passing of these devoted teachers. t 1. ' . ' ■jr ' . « fi ■trL 4 m Homecoming Queen Audrey Wright Fresh. Students, to be eligible for membership in the N.H.S., must have and maintain a B” scholastic average. All students having a B” average are then placed in nomination for membership into the society. New members are then chosen by secret ballot by the entire high school faculty. The following attributes scholarship, leadership, character, and service—are considered by the faculty in voting for the new members. This year the Wellston Chapter of the National Honor Society was involved in two major projects. One was publishing the school newspaper-The HI-TIMES, and the second was the induction ceremony and reception for new members. This year a candlelight induction ceremony was very impressive, and Mr. Alberti, Dean of Rio Grande College, was the guest speaker. Mr. Alberti All New Members Are Given White Carnations. Yet, we will always hold in our minds “the memories” of W.H.S. Ac kn o wl edgem en t s Tire Faculty and Administration for their patience and co-operation.
