John attended Grades One through Six at the South School Building. He completed Junior High School where he was able to make many new friends. John was a member of the Baptist Church. Johns' greatest interest was in the Sciences, haveing spent much time experimenting with chemistry sets and enjoying the great outdoors. Although John is no longer with us, we feel that in the Beyond he is busy and happy in a greater school--that of the Great Teacher. . .'at i ________ Administration Sets Pace The administrative staff of the Wellston City School System provides for the development and growth of a productive school program. Under the leadership of E.E. Tillis, Wellston Junior-Senior High School and all schools in the district have gained prominence. The superintendent works with the members of the school board in establishing general school policies and regulations. These men are one important segment of the dedicated group of people that strive to make Wellston High School and the entire school system the finest in the nation. E.E. Tillis Superintendent of Schools Mr. George V. Nash served as a teacher and coach in the Wellston City School System from 1948 until 1952. He then taught at Piqua, Ohio from 1952 until 1954. He returned to the Wellston System in the Fall of 1954, serving in the teaching and coaching profession until 1963. In 1963, Mr. Nash was appointed Administrative Assistant until March, 1967 at which time he became Superintendent at Cardington - Lincoln School District in Cardington, Ohio. George V. Each teacher provides understanding in his area of study. But besides the egular courses, there are many extra-curricular activities which are sponsored by teachers. The long hours spent by these jponsors working on projects, preparing for contests, and practicing for competitive sports are sometimes overlooked. They spent a week at Camp Crescendo in Kentucky training for the marching season which was highlighted by their very famous “lights out shows.” Next year the band will have a new look with the addition of the new overlays and hats to their regular uniforms. These new overlays and hats are pictured at the left and right of this page. Wellston Marching Rockets and the Gallipolis Band combine in an after game on the firled concert. Head Majorette Marilyn McCormick Basketbal This year's edition of the Rocket Basketball Team had its ups and downs. The Rockets could never seem to get started at the beginning of the season as they lost seven of their first eight games. However, the second half of the season proved to be a different story as the Rockets finished much better winning seven games and losing 5 including sectional tournament action at Oak Hill. Freshman Football Team ROMAN BANQUET Under the supervision of Mrs. Hendershott, a Roman Banquet sponsored by the two Latin Clubs was held April 28 in the high school cafeteria. Featuring ancient Roman events, five pictures adorned the walls. The first one was a picture of Romulus and Remus, the alleged founders of Rome. The second picture featured the attack of the Gauls on Rome; the third, Hannibal crossing the Alps; the fourth, Jason and the Golden Fleece; and the fifth, a centaur. After the welcome speech by Consul Jane Jones, the invocation was given by Consul Jim Pope. Serving at the banquet were eight slaves and a head waiter. The menu consisted of deviled eggs, relishes, ham sandwiches, apples, and fig bars. Music was played during the meal. Entertainment was provided by students. Lucinda Formydu-val read a poem. Jackie Lavender narrated a trip through Roman history. A skit entitled “Justice for All,” a modem version of Julius Caesar’s court, was portrayed. Some of the 'Wellston Romans' What's Next?
