Text from Pages 1 - 114 of the 1957 volume:

Nineteen Hundred Fifty Seven V 'U Q This is Wellston High School--scene of memories that no student will forget. Every nook and corner is reminiscent of the excitement, action, joys and sorrows that everyone has known here. To point up these moments, the Journalism Class presents the 1957 X-Ray--Book of Memories. 1957 X-RAY Wellston High School Wellston Ohio Mrs. Dean Baker and Mr. Ray Scharfenberger, each a parent of high school students represent the entire group of parents of pupils in our school. These Moms and Dads are the guiding force and morale builders of every student. Without their advice and help, many students would not survive their high school years and receive their diplomas. They have a justifiable pride in the accomplishments of their children. For this reason the staff would like to dedicate the 1957 X-RAY to all parents of students in Wellston High School. WHAT A CREW! These boys assemble to do their work together. Although they have a great deal of fun, Max” insists that their work be handed in completed. SORROW A cloud of sadness hung over the entire school at the death of our custodian, Mr. Norris. He was a friend to everyone and will be missed and remembered by all CLASSES CAN BE FUN! These students in speech class have puppet shows which are loads of fun, and educational too. GO TEAM GO! These cheerleaders are a symbol of school spirit. Peggy Potter, Wellston's representative on the Apple Queen’s Court, won first place in the county for her skill in baking an apple pie, and third place in the State. OH HAPPY DAY.’ THE LONG AWAITED MOMENT HAS ARRIVED. Rivalry at noon hour! The Cafeteria after lunch is a swing center which furnishes a bright spot in each school day. Alamande left! These students in physical education class are having fun while learning to dance. They are also acquiring poise and confidence. Down to Work This class of diligently studying pupils calls to mind the true purpose of school--to work, to study --to learn! FIRST ROW: L. Haltcrman, J. McMillen, C. Harless, P. Potter. SECOND ROW: M. Richards, M. Dowler, J. Partlow, G. Thatcher, D. Harris, R. Booth, J. Childers, J. Lyons, R. Martin, C. Prinzbach, S. Townsend, V. Jonas. The Journalism Class publishes the Hi-Times and the X-Ray. COMPLICATED CHAOS To many people this machinery looks very confusing, but the shop students become skilled enough in the use of it to make beautiful and useful articles. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Perhaps one of the most useful classes to the Wellston High girls is Home Economics. These gals learn just about everything they need to about managing a home. BUSY DAY! BUSY DAY! When Junior-Senior time arrives, the school is filled with the excitement of thrilled students who whisper and talk about new dresses, decorations, and who's going with whom ! BOOK LENDERS! These librarians have the responsibility of handling books in our library. Under Miss Bell's supervision, they succeed in maintaining a we 11-organized system. BETTY CAMP HOMECOMING The Wellston High School Homecoming was held on Friday Night, November 2. At the football game with Athens, Miss Betty Camp, who had been chosen Homecoming Queen, was introduced, along with her court. Dad's Night was also observed then, and the Senior Band members were introduced. The evening was climaxed with a dance held at the high school, where the queen was crowned. And then Christmas came . . . Christmas time in school is all hustle and bustle. Programs, parties, and decorations make the holiday a jolly time. However, the real meaning of Christmas is not forgotten. I r ■ Mr. C. H. Jones - Superintendent The administrative personnel lay the plans for financing, housing, and directing all phases of student life. They include the Board of Education, the Superintendent, the various principals and supervisors, and teachers. A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Although the going sometimes is rough, the students usually get through if they ask for advice and help from the ones at school who know them best--their teachers. Mr. C. However, he will always remember his last year of high school. The dances, then tests, the class play, and finally, the trip to Washington will always be a source of pleasant memories for him. It seems that several Juniors don't keep their rings long; a girl's ring may be seen on the little finger of a boy, while a boy's ring, heavily wrapped with angora, adorns the hand of a girl, or is worn about her neck on a chain. Of course the Junior-Senior Banquet and Dance is the big event of the year--the one to which every student looks foreard. The fun loving Juniors do not, however, forget that promotion day is coming. They begin to think seriously of the responsibility of becoming a Senior. FRESHMEN One of the most thrilling experiences in a pupil's life is his entrance into high school. The freshman year is one which is never forgotten. In the lunchroom at noon, the freshmen enjoy themselves, and this is indicative of their general attitude. Although Freshmen seem very young when they enter high school, they have proved to the other students that, when the time comes, they will be quite able to take their places as upper classmen. - ' U Jil Wy-' ' V ‘ V a.. ; i 1 David Scharfenberger Joan Napper Bob Michael Judy England Patricia Litteral Kenneth McGill Gary Gray President Jim Harris Vice-President Jimmy Evans Secretary Karen Grady T.
