They can do a great deal when their energy is guided into the right channels, and manage to have a good time doing it. The i958 Tiger reflects this mixture of serious effort and light hearted fun that makes up a school year. Mr. Glenn Potts came to Wellston as super- a intendent of schools in l95l, when we were still in grade school. He has helped pilot us through c junior and senior high school, and we have learn ed to appreciate his firm hand at the controls. We appreciate his friendship and his unfailing u interest in all our affairs. Graduated from Okla- homa State University, he has had several years' experience as teacher, principal and superin- tendent. 'pl A school can be no better than its teaching faculty. We are fortunate to have a group of fine teachers who have been trained in the colleges of Oklahoma. The Christmas pageant, in beautiful scenery and costumes, was presented in December by the junior high school students under the direction of Mrs. Seale. The high school mixed chorus provided a background of appropriate music, directed by Mrs. Pool. Sponsor The national organization, Future Farmers ot America, is guided by its motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Earn, Earning to Live, and Living to Serve. The Wellston chapter of nearly forty boys carries on a varied program of land and stock iudging, livestock and conservation proiects, public speaking and general service to the farmers ofthe community. The chapter helped conduct the Wellston fair and participated in both the county and state fairs. One of the big events ot their year was the Parent-Son banquet in April, when they entertained their parents and friends. At this time Mr. Floyd Key and Mr. Francis Becker were named as honorary members. Secretary ikiary Halbert ....- f Sponsor -fl 3 1' 6' as Future Homemakers at America is the national organization ot girls studying homemaking in high schools ofthe United States and Territories The over-all goal of the organization is to help individuals improve personal, tamily and community living, now and in the future. The Wellston chapter of F, H,A, has had classwork and chapter programs to promote better tamily living and to remember the aging. They also had Daddy-date night, a Sweetheart party, and a Mother- daughter banquet. Wellston attended the State Rally at Oklahoma City and Career Day at Stillwater. 4-'H Club Dee, an active member of the 4-H Club for 9 years, has completed T35 proiects. He has attended Wild Life Camp, Forestry Camp, Skelly Comp, and was a Lincoln County delegate to the state Round-up 5 years. Dee has won 314 award ribbons and i7 county medals. Some of his major 1 honors have been the Danforth, the Key, and the Citizenship awards. J Last year he represented Lincoln County at the American Royal in Kansas 1195 City, and this year, climaxed his achievements by winning a trip to Chicago to the National Congress. Dee states, Although it has been a lot of work, the joys and achieve ments have mode my 4-H work worthwhile, Dee Legako, President The 4-H work is carried on by the Cooperative Extension Service and by local leaders. Its obiectives are to give the members practical experience in real life situations, to develop citizenship and leadership, and a well rounded personality. The club colors are green and white, white being the symbol of purity, and green, the most common color in the great out- of-doors, emblematic ot youth. The members of the Wellston 4-H Club deem it an honor to belong to the world's largest farm youth organization.
